New DD-WRT Firmware Available

Hi all, Eko has fixed most of the issues like led blinking, resetting in his new firmware. This firmware is avilable in the DD-WRT svn - version number is 10488. Please try this version. This was a test build but no one has complained against this formware. It's working quit fine. Try that out and share your comments.

This firmware works great in

This firmware works great in both Europe and NA versions.Check the following link for this firmware review - http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=39124.

Build 10509 is available now.

Build 10509 is available now. Please note that jffs still doesn't work, we must fix it for serial flash.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv3/dd-wrt/downloads.html
others -> eko -> V24_TNG -> svn10509 -> WGR614v8-L .....

This build comes in many flavors - .chk and .bin files are available.
E.g.:

dd-wrt.v24-10509_NEWD_mini_wgr614v8-L.chk
dd-wrt.v24-10509_WGR614v8-L_mini.bin

.bin files are for GUI upgrade once already running dd-wrt - but note that this doesn't work for European (WW) version - it will put router into tftp mode after reboot. Please use .chk file to tftp it in this case.

Feedback welcomed!

Cool Eko,

Cool Eko,
Going to give it a try tomorrow. Love that you have a BIN available.

I am getting an Invalid

I am getting an Invalid filename when I try to upload it. And some odd reason, tftp is unable to connect to it.

Had no problems when I did my wrt54gv5....... not sure what's going on or if I am missing something.

I ditched both my netgear WGR614 v8, and kept my linksys wrt54g, as it is by far better supported by many third party firmware.

I've flashed the std-firmware

I've flashed the std-firmware onto my WGR614L. The .bin-file doesn't work with the SVN10152-webinterface but tftp + .chk-file works just fine.
Adjusting all options like they were used with the old firmware took quite some time. At the moment I'm searching for something to complain about. ;-)

This build is working very well on my router. I would really like to have tcpdump available though. Any chance of adding that to the mini build?

Like you said .bin put my router in tftp mode so i was able to flash the .chk in
my european version.

I used the bin file to flash

I used the bin file to flash from the DD-WRT GUI on the NA version, and after DD-WRT said that it had flashed, when I restarted it, it looks like it may be bricked.

I've been trying to tftp the chk version to 192.168.1.1 -- is this correct for this router?

EDIT: I am able to ping 192.168.1.1 but I haven't been able to use tftp (through ethernet) to put the chk version.

I tried the dd-wrt.v24-10509

I tried the dd-wrt.v24-10509_WGR614v8-L_std_small.bin file. It looked like it was uploading, but after the router rebooted it was running the same slightly older mini build it was on before. I tried this several times, with a variety of .bin files. I always ended up with the same result. After reflashing a mini .chk build it always seems to work, so thankfully I've not got a brick.

That's about the most positive thing I can say about the hardware. To say I am displeased with this unit is an extreme understatement. I've had good luck with dd-wrt on Buffalo and other Netgear routers. Why did I bother purchasing this one?

I had the same problem.  Hold the reset switch down for a 15 seconds or so while you power the unit up.  Then try to tftp the firmware to 192.168.1.1.  You may need to try the tftp several times.  I found that when the power light was flashing it was waiting for a tftp.

Unfortunately the power light on my unit is steady, despite numerous attempts at resetting it.  Looks like I'll have to connect it via serial, but hey, something new to try with this router Wink

Try some more ... it worked for me!    I found that at some point when it was just sitting there it started to flash, at which point I could tftp ...  If you can ping it it's NOT a brick.

I tried again... and unfortunately no luck again.  The only time I can get the light to flash is when I let go of the reset button after holding it on for about 30 sec while it's powering up, but the light only flickers once and it's before it initializes connections on the ethernet ports.  While I may be able to ping it, I can't find any way to start tftp on it so I can flash the firmware.

Hi

Could any body please provide me a link to get DD-WRT svn-version 10488.

Please provide me a link as this svn stuff is quite confusing for me and I am not able to get the exact source code.

Thanks in advance

you need to checkout the code from dd-wrt svn. Simply you can type the following command from your linux console to get the code. command: svn co svn://svn.dd-wrt.com/DD-WRT. Pleasse be sure that you have enough disk space - the total source will be around 7 gb.

You can specify the version also while checking out. Please refer to the svn man page for details.

Any advice as to how to get a standard build of DD-WRT working on my router?  I've tried many, MANY times.  It never works.  It is VERY frustrating.  The only builds that work are mini builds.  I'm not a newbie when it comes to this.  It seems to me that something is clearly wrong.  I just can't figure out what that something is...

Get the dd-wrt.v24-10509_NEWD

Get the dd-wrt.v24-10509_NEWD_std_small_wgr614v8-L.chk
Login with telnet or ssh
wget http://www.schugy.de/forenlinks/mtd_erase
Use mtd_erase to delete the old firmware
Install the chk-File with tftp
Reset
Reconfigure it

Where exactly do I find that build?  None of the downloads at dd-wrt.com have build numbers associated with them.   I'm browsing under what the web site lists as  http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/stable/dd-wrt.v24 SP1/Consumer (though the URL at the top of the page shows "dd-wrtv3" instead of "dd-wrtv2" - that looks like a website bug)  I'm running "DD-WRT v24-sp1 (08/08/08) mini (SVN revision 10152)"  which I downloaded from there. The dates on the filenames haven't changed.

Your firmware image is here - http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv3/dd-wrt/downloads.html

Now go to 'others -> eko -> V24_TNG -> svn10509 -> WGR614v8-L'.

Please note that svn10564 has also been released but only contains bin image so if you are planning to upgrade from already installed dd-wrt firmware you can download the 10564 version. But if you need the chk image download 10509 version.

Good Luck...

Thanks for the info.  I now

Thanks for the info.  I now have the standard firmware on my router,  DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/14/08) std SVN revision 10509M NEWD Eko).   I can not, however, seem to get it to flash from the DD-WRT firmware upgrade screen.  I've tried and it appears to load just fine.  But when the router resets itself,  it always has the same firmware it started with.  This means I'm stuck waiting for chk builds.  Any advice?

Hi everyone

Hi everyone

Im a newcomer to the scene. Ive been lurking these threads for the last couple of days. After research and homework, i finally purchased the WGR614L. I must say im very impress with the performance thus far and hopefully it stays that way. Everything went smooth with the flash. One question about this one here:

" dd-wrt.v24-10509_WGR614v8-L_mini.bin " What exactly does it do ? Anyhow great site.

I have never been able to successfully flash my unit with a bin image.   The DD-WRT firmware upgrade link from the web interface never works.  I've tried different browsers, etc.  It looks like it works but it takes far too short a time and only succeeds in rebooting the existing firmware.  I've got it working with a chk image (the one listed above).  As long as I'm setting it up I thought I'd be better off with a newer build.

Any suggestions on how to flash with a bin image?

About .bin upgrade: It doesn

About .bin upgrade: It doesn't work with dd-wrt GUI because of checksum that is checked by cfe on reboot. This fails, then router goes into tftp mode to get you chance to load .chk file.

This is only problem with WW (EU) router, NA should take bin.

That's why I do both .bin and .chk images:

Example:
dd-wrt.v24-10600_WGR614v8-L_nokaid.bin
dd-wrt.v24-10600_NEWD_nokaid_wgr614v8-L.chk

Yes, build 10600 is available. :)
