In order to upgrade a previous version of DD-WRT to this newer version (through the DD-WRT web interface) do you need to:
- rename the .chk file extension to .bin?
- look for a .trx version instead of the .chk version?
- or is there someother solution?
It seems that the DD-WRT Firmware Upgrade page only accepts files with the extension ".bin" which is a limitation enforced by javascript on all the browsers I've tried (Safari, IE, and Firefox 2/3).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The chk-file is for flashing using tftp. You have to reset the router and you have to delete the firmware with e.g. http://www.schugy.de/forenlinks/mtd_erase
I've downloaded the file logged in via telnet (or use ssh) with wget. The howto is here: http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/10491/MTD-Erase-Firmware-Upgrade-Utility...
But I've found out that there's an executable called mtd on the router that should do the same job.
You should rename the .chk-file to a shorter name like d.chk because tab-autocompletion didn't work in the tftp command prompt.
connect 192.168.1.1
mode binary
put d.chk
I've experienced that it isn't always necessary to start the put-command within 3 seconds after plugging in the router. Just try several times.
BTW I would like to have a working standard dd-wrt instead of the mini-version that works well but lacks some features like chilispot.
