it works as described, on my case, the final telnet attempt didn't present the authentication challenge, telnet to the box opened up the BusyBox below:

BusyBox v0.60.0 (2008.06.06-03:40+0000) Built-in shell (msh)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

# help

Built-in commands:
-------------------
. : break cd continue eval exec exit export help login newgrp
read readonly set shift times trap umask wait

#

Hope it helps.

Hi,

I've tried this on my DGND3700 and it doesnt work. The utility returns without any problems but telnet is not enabled.

The only thing I can this is:

When I bought my router the shrink wrap had been damaged. I wonder if someone had bought then returned the product. (It looked untouched although)

Is it possible someone has changed the telnet password on my router then disabled telnet?. Is that possible? Can you reset the console password by reflashing the device?

Cheers

As far as I know, it doesn't work on DGN routers. I have one here.
It definitely doesn't work on the Orange (UK ISP) provided DGN1000. You can tell if it's from them if the router has RG in the firmware version.

The reason why it doesn't work on that one is that there is no telnet binary on the router!
You can access it via the internal serial port though! You can find this right in the center of the board. It looks like 4 golden circles in a vertical line. The order from top to bottom is GND, TX, V+, RX.

This also allows you access to U-Boot when the router starts up.

Hope this helps some people.

Like Nebster said there is no utelnetd binary on dgn1000 but you can compile it by yourself upload and run :)
(guide posted on binblah.blogspot.com)

if you wanna just run some commands u can use syscmd webpage

I have followed this comments to get to my router. It is WNR3500L router. I have lost my Admin password to the regular browser utility and to see if by accessing it by telnet will allow me to get it or change it. I have tried the following command with no luck.

telnetEnable.exe 172.16.1.1 E091F5869530 Gearguy Geardog

I get this error: bind fail: 10048
