how did you build it? i tried to build tomatousb from git, but ran into errors when following the instructions in the code.

Which build are you referring to? The Tomato 1.27 builds are from SourceForge but not necessarily specifically built for the WNR3500L, but are claimed to be compatible. Several members here have uploaded the firmware with great success.

sorry, i referred to the build labeled "Tomato Firmware (Compatible with NETGEAR WNR3500L) 1.27.9045 BETA10". is that the "tomato-K26USB-1.27.9045MIPSR2-beta10-Ext.rar" build from sourceforge?

so you did not compile it yourself?

No - I outlined the procedure I used here:

Guys,

I have done several routers but my WNR3500L is asking for *.chk files. Am I doing something wrong? I opened the RARs but could not find any versions I d/loaded to install with this Netgear.

Any constructive idea?

Thanks,

Mindach

I see the extension change to *.bin but it asking for *.chk should I just make the change and continue? This is a new unit build Hardware Version.

WNR3500L
Firmware Version V1.0.2.26_30.0.98NA
GUI Language Version V1.0.2.26_2.1.0.2

@Mindach - You do have to change the extension, but you have to install DD-WRT first (at least that is what is recommended.)

These instructions should help - they worked great for me.

Cheers and good luck!
