I have what I believe is the latest build (15510M) and every couple of days I need to reboot my router because my media devices are not able to browse the network. I can get to them if I type the IP address but for others that his not very simple. What can I check? A setting maybe?

Hi LordBond,

are you using minidlna? If so, did you set "DB PATH" in minidlnas config to a location on the usb drive?

I have set the minidlna path to the usb drive and there is a folder there called minidlnadb which is empty. I'm not trying to use that part yet. What I am talking about is if I go to network places on my windows machine all I see is my pc and the router, not my NAS drive or either of my two Patriot Box Office media streamers. If I go to the media streamers and try to browse the network for files I don't see any of my other devices in the list. I have to use the IP address to locate them. If I reboot the router then everything works fine for a couple days.

To be able to use machine names the router has to be configured to do name resolving for the local network. The appriopriate option is located under Services->Services->DNSMasq: Local DNS

You may also need to enable UPnP under NAS/QOS->UPnP Service

I enabled the local dns setting last night so I will see how it goes. I already had the UPnP enabled previously.

On the miniDLNA side shouldn't there be something in the minidlnadb folder that I have located on my USB drive? I currently have my songs and pictures located there but I haven't tried to connect to it yet.

Yes if minidlna is enabled it should contain a file named file.db.
If it is not there, you can login via ssh and run these commands once:

killall minidlna
/usr/sbin/minidlna -R -f /tmp/minidlna.conf
