I also am unable to play(or see) mkvs with your most recent build in miniDlna
I have tested mkv support and it works here. Either the device is not capable of playing mkvs or the included videocodec is not supported, in that case you need to tell me the codec used by the mkv video.
Thanks for your reply.
The file says ***********720p.x264.AC3.mkv
and when I right click and go to properties, it doesnt list any information.
I am trying to play it on an xbox 360, which might be the problem.
I can play the file in Orb's upnp media server from the xbox 360 but it might be transcoding it.
gspot and avi codec give errors when trying to analyze all of my mkvs (although i am new to both programs and there seems not to be a "scan button"
You can find out which codec was used by playing the file with vlc and then select codec details from the menu. Minidlna does not support transcoding. So it is very likely, that the XBox 360 does not support the codec.
ok, found it. the video codec says h264 - mpeg4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)
and the audio codec is Mpeg AAC (mp4a)
Ok, just checked XBox 360 does not support mkv:

Windows Mediaplayer 11 / Win 7 also does not support it. For my test I used Totem which plays mkvs just fine.
Hello,
I have some mkv works and others do not ...
The video codec is the same, at first I thought it came from the "Full-HD", but I have a "Full-HD " that works.
I conducted these tests with "tomato toastman" because the "Kong DLNA" I had twice the loss of data stored on the hard disk to NTFS!!
DLNA client I use is XBMC.

@lamalicefr,
with the latest build there should not be a problem anymore with data loss. Tomato suffered from this minidlna bug too, tomato also fixed this
I don't recommend to use NTFS if you want to stream movies since the performance is really bad. With higher bitrates there is no chance to stream from a NTFS partition.
Data loss is just the latest version ....
For information:
When the file "MKV HD" is well recognized (even in full HD), there is no problem even with NTFS disk (with tomato) ...

How exactly does this data loss look like, unaccessible partition, deleted files, fs check notification?
If deleted files, are they located at the same path minidlna db is located or just random files?
I have been running minidlna with an ext3 partition for some month without a problem.
The maximum read/write rate with NTFS is around 1,5MB/s this is not enough to stream a high quality hd movie. Of course if your mkvs contain low bitrate hd content it is possible.
P.S. The latest build uses the special ntfs-3g from dd-wrt, before I used official ntfs-3g directly from tuxera, it could be possible, that the dd-wrt version is buggy.
The files are deleted .... I use the following structure on disk:
DLNA | - data-base
| - music
| - video
|-SD
|-HD
| - Picture
ISO ....
.....
OK, then I'll switch to the official ntfs-3g from tuxera again, since I never heard any complaints about it.
