Hello
I would be grateful if someone can help/suggest for the below:
I am trying to passively monitor wireless traffic of strongest WAP from a Netgear WNR3500L.
I have flashed the openwrt firmware Kamikaze 8.09.2 on Netgear WNR3500L.
In order to do that:
1- Netgear WNR3500L is wired connected to another router.
2- Have tcpdump installed
The following commands put the Netgear WNR3500L to passive monitor mode.
wl up
wl ap 0
wl disassoc
wl passive 1
wl monitor 1
wl promisc 1
Then perform the scan operation to find the strongest AP and connect on that channel.
Unfortunately the "wl monitor 1" command doesn't create a new interface like "prism0", for the tcpdump to capture the traffic.
It could be that the wirless passive monitor mode is not supported in this beta openwrt firmware build
I would appreciate if anyone can share info about the openwrt firmware build for Netgear WNR3500L, which supports passive wireless monitor mode.
Thanks in advance

Hey man. I'd like the same thing. Perhaps setting up the WNR3500 like this WRT guide will help? http://www.renderlab.net/projects/wrt54g/openwrt.html
I know it's not as easy as just setting "monitor" mode. you gotta have the right patched wifi-card drivers and a suitable sniffer like kismet (which is definately what you want). You'll be better off following a guide like this. If you already have OpenWRT installed, adding the packages you need should be a piece of cake. I'd help but I use my 3500 for my main router and have a old WRT54G I am going to try for this project.
Good luck.
