I installed the posted DD-WRT firmware and it did not work well for me. I ended up having to revert back to the NetGear firmware.

The problem was the wireless radio never worked. The lights on the router would not turn on indicating the radio was on.

Try to search the SSID that is given to your router AP.
Things are working fine at my side (Except the LED indication) i.e. I am able to connect to the board using wireless.

February 2, 2012 1:02 PM

I installed the posted DD-WRT firmware too and wifi is not working.
I did not succeed to revert to factory firmware (WNDR3800-V1.0.0.24.img)
using either WebUI, tftp or ssh connection and /sbin/write

I surely miss something. Any idea what?

February 4, 2012 8:42 AM

I installed and the wireless was off also. I made some changes and then the router bricked and I had to re-install the factory firmware.

I'll probably wait for the next update before trying again.

In my case I switched from Stock firmware to dd-wrt firmware and am able to connect to the wireless.

Can you tell what are the steps you followed? That may help the developers to solve the concerned problem.

My suggestion would be to make another try by making a nvram reset.

February 15, 2012 3:56 AM

Can you please post the containt of "/tmp/wlan0_hostap.conf" of your router ???

I gave this another try.

1. With NetGear firmware, did a reset to defaults.

2. Installed the DD-WRT.

3. Did a reset to defaults in DD-WRT.

4. Then tried setting up DD-WRT and several restarts later, in DD-WRT it states Radio is Off.

5. Gave up and went back to NetGear firmware.

Ok I just noticed that in my case also status page states "Radio Off" but still I can connect to the wireless.

Please go through the following steps,
1. With Netgear Firmware, do a reset to default.
2. Install DD-WRT.
3. Configure SSID and encryption mode (First try with no encryption mode) in wireless setting.
4. Try to search the SSID you have given to the AP from the client and connect it.

I did the above steps and able to connect to it.

Are you able to ping to router's default IP address "192.168.1.1" through wireless??

March 21, 2012 4:50 PM

I have the same issue .. the wireless radio never gets turned on with dd-wrt on wndr3800, I can ping and login to the router using the 192.168.1.1 ip on the wired network. But I never could join the wireless network and looking at the LED's I get the idea that wireless radio is off. Any ideas on what the issue?

March 23, 2012 2:25 AM

First of all, the README says that LED support is not provided in this build. So LED would not indicate whether your wireless network is turned-on or turned-off.

Can you please elaborate what is the actual problem you are facing ?

i) Are you not being able to see the SSID (you have set using dd-wrt WebUI) from host?
ii) Are you not being able to connect to the SSID ?? If so what are the messages you are getting ??
ii) If you are facing some other problem then what is it?

March 30, 2012 8:24 AM

I've the same issue: wireless is not starting.

I mean that the status is always "off", whatever the setting that I'm trying to apply to it (AP, client, etc. with or without security). No wireless emission can be detected (even hidden SSID). I did see any error message. It's just that the wireless signal stay off.

Otherwise, everything (I tested) seemed to run fine. I really appreciated the smooth interface (compare to Tomato) and the absence of Netgear's limits for port forwarding and MAC filters.

I went back to firmware V1.0.0.32 and will be glad to test the next DD-WRT release for the WNDR38000.

Cheers.

Thanks for appreciating ddwrt for WNDR3800. Could you please elaborate how did you ensured "No wireless emission can be detected (even hidden SSID)." . If you share your experience it would be halpful to solve the problem.

I performed a scan first with the system (OS X.6, X.7, and X.8b), a second with AirRadar software (general public soft), and a last one with KisMAC (for hidden/cloaked/closed SSID).
It resulted in: no SSID or BSSID visible ou hidden corresponding to the router with default setting or with a specific SSID, or with/out security.

I also attempted a direct connexion by registering manually the SSID into the system (OS X.6, X.7, and X.8b).

I've no issue with wireless using either Tomato or Netgear firmware.

Cheers.

Thanks again for sharing your experience.

could you please ssh/telnet to your board (with builtin dd-wrt firmware provided with this build ) and provide the output of these following commands ??

1. ifconfig

2. ifconfig -a

3. ps

4. nvram show

Thanks in advance.

So, I re-uploaded to my WNDR3800 the "DD-WRT for NETGEAR WNDR3800 Full Release". You will find below the results.

Now I also moved to "DD-WRT for WNDR3800 by BrainSlayer" which is perfectly running (including WiFi signal). I highly recommend the switch to this release to people who had problem with the "Full Release".

Cheers.
