Do you have one?  How are you using its open platform capability?  Or maybe you're thinking about getting one?

The community is just getting off the ground, and I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has or is interested in the KWGR614 platform.

I've got one.  I got it to replace the Linksys WAP54G that has been fading in and out and generally driving the household crazy.  So far, the KWGR614 has been supplying a much more stable signal.

Trouble is, it's blocking DNS requests.  I think it has something to do with the "clever" DNS trap that lets you connect to "myrouterlogin.com" to configure the router.  I don't want it to do that.  I don't want it to attempt routing at all -- I have a separate box for that.  I want it to be a WAP and nothing else.  (The WAN port is unconnected.)

I grabbed the source code, but all attempts to compile even the default configuration have failed so far.  So now I'm casting about for help or solutions.

Apparently no one has tried to get OpenWRT to run on this thing, either...

Hi, ewhac. Welcome to this brand new community. I recommend posting your questions (how to disable the DNS trap and troubleshooting the compile of the source code) to the Setup/Configuration and/or Troubleshooting forums.

As more folks like you come online, these will be great topics of conversation that allow the community to work out the kinks in the router's config.  Also, I'll see if I can get some expert help from NETGEAR on your questions once they're posted.

Thanks!  See you around the community.

I just got one.  Got it to replace an Adaptec one which had died.

Don't laugh, they did make them, for a few days at least, the Ultrawireless, and I got one for about $30 on some clearance sale.

It was worth it, it worked OK for several years.  Never any updates for it.

So, being a Linux guy, I thought open was the way to go, and I was going to get a Linksys, but saw this one for less.

Haven't done too much with it.  I was having a few problems and noticed posts about DNS issues and the DNRD included in the firmware.  My problems could be Comcast, but I found a guy who had a recompiled firmware without DNRD.  I downloaded it (and the version I am running in case I have/had to flash back to be safe) and reflashed it.

So far so good, but it's only been 5 minutes.  :-)

Just nice to see that there was already some hacking of the firmware.  I think I'd like best if someone (I might poke at it, but I'm a Linux admin, not a programmer) could get the OpenWRT (I think that's it) project software working on it.   That looks pretty active, and it just makes sense.

Still working for me so far.

I still haven't been able to compile from the DL on Netgear's website.

The NA version didn't work at all.  The WW version came closer, but I ended up with this error:

Error: -mips1 conflicts with the other architecture options, which imply -march=5280
make[3]: *** [cryptlib.o] Error 1

but I haven't had any real time to play with it.  I've just tried them with default settings.

Good luck..

Thank you kindly! I may give that a try.

Sadly, your aid may come too late. I caved and bought a NetGear WG302 (no routing, just a WAP), and it's much closer to what I want. Working fine so far with no dropouts reported by other members of the household.

I haven't gotten rid of the KWGR614, though, as it now makes an excellent guinea pig. <*cackle*>

I'm pretty much in the same boat -- no real time to beat up on this, and no concrete idea of how this stuff is supposed to fit together.

Yeah.  It's one of those things.  I think Netgear should have gone with OpenWRT or something really supported personally.  The only issue with starting with something else, is that their documentation isn't totally accurate.

If you follow the processes listed in the readme for just a plain build, you end up with errors.

My guess is that those directions were correct once, but not for the source that we can download.

That limits it to the more serious hackers who have more time.  If their instructions (or source) were more accurate, or if they used something more supported to start with, they'd have more activity.

Just my thoughts.  Hopefully someone will post instructions on how to do a basic build (I will if I figure it out) or someone will port OpenWRT to it.
