We are initiating a project to add IPSec VPN functionality into KWGR614 Opensource router. We will use OpenSWAN or FreeSWAN based IPSec implementation - based on what works better on the uCLinux version of KWGR614. We already have made some progess and in a few days will share the first firmware for beta testing. So keep watching this thread.

We have identified the following tasks for this project and any help would definitely be appreaciated. Please send me your comments, ideas and will appreciate if anyone of you want to take care of some the following tasks.

  • Linux Kernel - The KLIPS patches from Openswan 2.4.5dr3 are already in the 2.4.26 kernel. The code also includes some patches from Realtek for the ipsec hardware acceleration - but these configurations doesn't work due to some missing files. We possibly have to live without the hardware acceleration for IPsec, but I guess that's ok for the time being.
  • A freeswan directory in the ROOTDIR doesn't have all the files and seems to be of slightly older versions (Freeswan 1.92). We possibly need to port a new Openswan or FreeSwan versions.
  • user/freeswan and user/openswan directories are missing and needs to be added. We possbily need to backport it from one of the current uCLinux distributions.
  • Fix any compilation errors/warnings and build using the Realtek provided toolchains.
  • Create neccessary configuration files.
  • Modify boa/src/... to add the handling functions for Web pages etc.
  • Fix any Firewall NAT issues.
  • Add new forms and pages in www_WW/ for IPSec tunnel configuration using openswan. Some example code exists in the user/boa/rtl865x/rome_asp.c (grep CONFIG_KLIPS) for configuring IPSEC tunnels - but we will need a bit of work to fix these pages.

Is there any progress in this project? I'm still waiting for the beta firmware.
