Hi all,

Just picked up a brand new WGR614L, opened the box, set it up minimally, and am just trying to update the firmware to no avail.

I've tried both the v1.1.2_1.0.23 firmware and the v1.11.041510 tomato firmware and simply get the following message after hitting the 'upload' button on the Router Upgrade page:

"Firmware upgrade failed.  Please check your file."

It's a WGR615V9 running V1.0.9_1.0.1NA.

Haven't got around to wiring up the console yet.  Any suggestions?  Known issues?

Cheers,

Sean

Have you tried the chk file? For the Tomato release you should try the chk file - 'tomato_wgr614l.chk' not the trx one,

Yup. Tried the .chk files from both tomato and netgear firmware downloads. no love :(

I have tried to upgrade firmware from the Tomato release. I am not sure whether the default Netgear firmware has any issue in it. Actually in may case, I have tried with serial console and as usual it went fine for me....:) I will definite check your issue. Please keep it touch..

Just to clarify, I am trying to upgrade FROM the default firmware, TO the tomato firmware.

Not quite sure why I paid the extra money for a box that can't seem to accept upgrades.

a bit of progress here... I was able to upgrade to WGR614v9-V1.1.0.15.chk from the netgear site.
Is there a bit of a model numbering mismatch between the 614v9 and 614L firmware files perhaps?

yes, I guess that was the reason. The image you tried is for 614L. And for your information, you will not be able to run the opensource firmware in 614v9 since it has 2 mb flash.

The latest version of the Netgear firmware does have an issue with the DD-WRT firmware image and other Netgear firmware. I think they changed something someware in how the image is verified. I don't know about others. To flash the DD-WRT firmware onto it I had to roll back the firmware to a previous version; useing the tftp method and reverting to an older version of the fimware. Then rebooting before proceeding to upgrade to the DD-WRT...
