which firmwae are you trying? Tomato, DD-WRT released in this site is intended for v8 only - you need to have wgr614v8 router to experiment with these firmware.
I have try update firmware on my WGR614L v7 with tomato and dd-wrt firmware. Update proces broken and display message:
"Firmware upgrade failed. Please check your file."
This firmware is suitable for all version (v9....v1) or only for specific version e.g. v5
Original firmware have 938 kb and tomato, dd-wrt firmware 2,7 MB. That is problem?

I use both firmware tomato and dd-wrt with same result.
This is serious case. You must write this on home page big letter because exist 9
version of this router and this firmware suitable only for ONE!
