Before anyone tries and bricks their WGR614v8...

Flashed this file http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/v24-sp1/Broadcom/Broadcom%20Generic/... and ended up with an "Invalid Boot Block" message upon reboot and the router waiting for new f/w via TFTP...

I'm no Linux geek, so I can't help debugging it. Just figured I'd let ya'll know.

L8er,

Jay

Thanks for the heads up. Wonder what happened.

I simply flashed it back to the latest NETGEAR firmware using TFTP and it's back working again.

Since I tapped into the serial console, I don't mind trying out different firmwares since I can easily recover now.

Sadly, I've never been a Linux pro or any good at C coding, so I have no idea what it would take to fix it ;-(

Thanks for the heads up. This version is better than their last version though. At least you can tftp back into this one. Their older v24 just made a brick and the only way to fix it was to JTAG your firmware back on. I think EKO is working on this.

You can try the dd-wrt image pulished in this site as well. There should not be this kind of problem.

Does the wireless part work in that image? Because last time I tried DD-WRT on WGR614v8, the wireless was unsupported and thus made the router useless for my purposes.

Yep, everybody's waiting for EKO ;-) Can you give me a link on the JTAG thing, I'm new to all this and would like to understand how that works. Thanks!

Thanks, that's how I'm hooked up right now. I guess I misunderstood, I thought JTAG involved the 12-pin connector right below the serial connector on the router motherboard???
