Tomato, dd-wrt and all the firmwares released in this forum are intended to run on wgr614L/v8. 614v9 has 2 MB flash and hence not suited to run these firmwares. To try Tomato you need to use wgr614v8 model.

I recently picked up a v9 which seems fairly similar to the L/v8 but with less memory. What can I do with this? I am very new but would like to try out tomato. Is there a capatible working version that I can use?

You can make it into a repeater since wds is enabled with version 9 and 8.
