Hello, I have installed and been using tomato for a month and a half. After the first month, I logged back into it (I did it regularly) to reinstall the original Netgear firmware and there was nothing.. There was text but there was nothing there, just some text.... I still am able to connect and use the router like normal, but there is just no user interface anymore. I can boot into a Linux machine and a Windows machine so if you have any fix please let me know.

How do you reinstall the original Netgear firmware, through Web interface or through tftp ? Do you have any serial cable ?
Please let me know the exact steps that you performed.
Sorry, I do not understand this text portion properly. Where do you find these text and what are these texts all about ?

Would you mind trying couple of the things and let us know the results

1. clear the browser cache, exit all browser windows, reboot your xp or linux machine and try again.

If the above doesn't work try the following

2. Do a factory reset of the router

Sorry, I performed the update via the web interface and all that displays when I connect to the router is just that text in the pictures that I posted. I have opened the router's page with 3 browsers on 2 operating systems. It's all the same. I do not have a serial cable available.

Is it possible to telnet or ssh into the device?

Nope. =/ What can I do?

I hate to say this but it would seem you are a little stuck!

You could try holding down the reset button as you turn the router on. In an ideal universe that would cause the router to go into tftp mode (flashing power light). It may work on your version (it doesn't on mine, it just prints "loaddefault!" on the console) its worth a try.

Other than that it looks like your going to have to get your soldering iorn out.

I have also faced the same problem and posted it in the thread http://www.myopenrouter.com/forum/thread/10487/Tomato-not-upgrading/

The problem is solved by itself for me also. I dont know what was the cause of that problem.
