I had a dd-wrt installed and running on my WGR614.  It was working up until I had to unplug the router to move it.  When I plugged everything back in, nothing.  I can't ping the router and it's acting as if it's completely dead.

I know everything is working with the computer and internet connection, because I threw a different router in the line and it works just fine.

Its strange. Is the power LED on?
I think there is some problem with your new setup. Please check the power supply. Or you can check your WGR614 in the previous setup. If it is still working there, then you can conclude that problem is in your new setup.

Yes... and it was showing a link light.  Honestly, all I did was change where the router was plugged in.  I was consolidating 2 powerstrips into one because I no longer had a need for the 2nd one.  So the only thing that changed was WHERE the power supply was plugged in at.  They router was never physically moved.

Please tell me the problem in detail like :
1. what is link light?
2. is the power LED blinking or glowing?
3. If you connect ethernet cable, is corresponding LED glowing?

I dont know exactly what you have done with the power supply. But wrong power input may damage the router.

Ok.  I plugged the router back in to show you what is happening.

The power light is steady.  If I plug in an ethernet cable it'll light up that light, but I can't even get to 192.168.1.1 to log into the router's control panel, or for that matter, get a DHCP IP from the router.

This is what is lit up:

(Internet not currently plugged into the router)

As for power adapters, I'm using the same one that came with the unit.  Same one as I always have been using.  The only change I made (at the time) was unplugging the router from one power strip and plugging it into another.  Honestly, that should not have been enough to brick a *working* dd-wrt install.

Only one packet in ping gets response and you are unable to access web pages of the board. Board is okay as far as the LEDs are concerned. It seems to me that board is booted but somehow network is not working. Which version of dd-wrt firmware you used ? Did you download firmware from myopenrouter.com or download source code and make your own firmware ?

January 13, 2009 10:19 PM

Oh god.. It's been a while since I flashed it. I have no clue. I'm pretty sure it was DLed from here when I did it. If I had to guess I'd say V24. Again, it was a working router *with* that install of dd-wrt. I simply just unplugged the router to move where it was plugged in and when I plugged it back in, it was no longer working.

Have you rebooted the router before this? If not, I think the image was improper. Now while rebooting its not getting up.
Or did you change any configuration settings? If the settings of network parameters are changed, it may create problem.
You may try factory reset.

January 14, 2009 1:02 AM

I'm pretty sure it's been rebooted prior to this. Haven't changed any config settings other than the normal change the SSID, set WPA key, etc.

Is factory reset the same as hitting the button or is there documentation somewhere for that? If you don't have a link I can google for it.

press reset button for 5 sec. then router will reboot automatically.

Pressing the reset for five seconds won't do a factory reset. If you unplug it, then hold in the reset button, plug it in, and keep holding the button in for ten seconds or so, that should do the trick.

If I remember correctly, on mine I think it will do a factory reset if I hold the button in for around 45 seconds, but the method above is faster.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I am having the exact same problem. Unplugged my router and plugged it back in 30 mins later and now it wont start. Cant tftp it or anything.

I kind of put the thing on the back burner. I bought a WRT-54GL so it's not a priority to get the Netgear working.

i am having the same problem. with my router i unplugged it to move it and now not even the power light comes on. i tried the factory reset and still nothing. can use the help feel restricted laptops don't belong tethered to an Ethernet cable

I have ordered a usb-serial cable to see if I have any luck with that.

If your not even the getting power light, then it sounds like your router is dead.

Finally got around to getting this going again... Nothing suggested helped. Might have to look into getting a cable for it and doing a reload on it.

July 29, 2009 12:11 AM

Have you got the USB serial cable ? Couple of person are complaining same problem. I want to know if every body was using dd-wrt firmware prior to that mishap ?
If Power led is not on then the problem is different. Check your power supply or the adapter.

I used the 'DD-WRT BETA svn 14584 with Samba3 for WNR3500L' image and all was working fine. I unplugged my router to move it to a different location under desk, and not it won't respond. I get steady power light, wireless light is off, and if i ping it through cat 5 cable, it will blink but not respond. tried 30-30-30 reset and setting static ip to 192.168.1.10/ 24 and still no luck . just ordered usb - serial to see if i can recover.

Should switch to tomato or get image off or dd-wrt for my wnr3500l?

July 12, 2010 12:53 AM

This is a peculiar problem. Physical relocation of the board should not incur any problem in the software. One possible reason might be the changing of power supply. As you have already given order for USB cable, now you can debug the problem.
If you can not solve that problem, you always do firmware upgrade through usb serial cable.
