I have a Netgear WGR614v8 Open Source Edition Router with DD-WRT v24-sp1 firmware. From one to day to another I can't apply settings anymore. Seems that apply.cgi is deleted or corrupted. Last thing I remember doing when everything worked was changing the theme to the "xirian" theme. After that I can not save any preference in the router. I tried reseting the router by holding to button on the back, but the only thing it did was leave my router open now as it will not let me save any settings to the router. Any suggestions? I know you guys are free volunteers but I would like to have a solution appear fast. Its really annoying. If I would of known stuff like this happened in DD-WRT I would of never installed it.

there were some problems with DD-WRT v24-sp1 build and it was not fully stable ... I would suggest you to do a f/w upgrade with the DD-WRT build available at :

http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/10752/DD-WRT-v11205-Mini-Build-CHK-For-W...

After upgrading the f/w do a hard factory reset by switching of the router, holding the reset button and switching on the router ...  hold the reset button for 10-15 seconds ...

With this build u will not face problems such as urs ....

Thanks I try to do that/ Though I fixed that problem temporary by using Internet Explorer to load the admin panel. Weird.

I have a WL-520GU router running DD-WRT v24 sp1. I have the same problem as you where I can't change any settings due to apply.cgi not working. However I was using Safari 4 (where it doesn't work) and it works with Firefox 3.5. Weird.

The problem was fixed for me after a couple of weeks by itself. I can recall that that the router wouldn't work in Firefox but IE it would work fine.

Just has the same problem with DD-WRT, after a few resets and factory default restores, I did some googling and found this page. Read through it, pondered for a moment and then thought a-ha, it must be something in the browser cache (I am using Firefox at the moment), cleared my browser history, saved data and cookies and it worked! I am now able to save setting again on my router. So thank you to you all!

If anyone is still having problems, try compatibility mode in IE 8. That's what did it for me.

Or if you are using a Mac, I had to shift from FF 4.0 to Safari 5.0.5 to get any of my "Apply Changes" button presses to actually work. The "apply.cgi" file never loaded in FF.

I just had the issue with my WNDR3300. I added v24 and could not save changes, using firefox 9.0.1 on mac osx lion 10.7.2. I'd save and i would get "The connection was reset" messages.

I followed Defscan's solution, cleared my cache, and bam. i was able to save.
