Netgear WGR614v6 works well with XP desktop and Macbook wireless.  It works with new Vista Notebook wired but not wireless.  Notebook will connect through neighborhood  open link to internet.  Is the Netgear program for Vista  WGR614v6_vista_res.cd.beta.zip  different from the standard firmware 2.0.19_1.0.19.  HP remotely operated the Vista Notebook but could not solve the wireless link problem.

Notebook connects to WGR614V6 wired without problems, just not wirelessly. Neither HP nor I was able to identify the problem. It also connects wirelessly through a neighbor's unsecured Linksys router.

I'm totally having the same problem. I can get full network abilities when I have a wired connection to the wgr614, i can also connect to the internet from other peoples wifi access points.
My Vaio pcg-k37, windows xp, connects wirelessly to the router, and I can get very little connectivity. it takes like 3 min to load the google page. other news websites simply wont load, however, when i turn off wifi, i get internet no problem and super fast.
please help.

Wifi in WGR614v6 does not have any dependency with the client side OS. It may be XP, Vista, Linux or MAC. If you are able to connect in XP then logically you should be able to connect in Vista also.
Here I am seeing two problem raised.
Anhinga has problem in Vista. Could you please tell me what is the exact problem that you are facing ? In your laptop are you able to see the AP name in the AP lists ? Are you able to ping ?
Another member (It) saying that connection speed in wireless is very slow. Can you please tell what is signal strength ? You can try with other wireless channel also.
Both of you can try one thing. Disable Wifi security and then try to connect. Let me know the result.

I am having the same problem here. I bought a HP laptop last week. I had the same problem. I can only browse google.com when connecting with wireless. I was on the phone with HP and Comcast support several hours but they could not resolve the problem. I return the laptop to the store because I thought it is the laptop's problem. I bought another laptop (Windows Vista), same problem. I have another XP laptop home. No problem.

Netgear Wireless Cable Modem Gateway.
CG814WG
ISP: Comcast.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I spend another 2 hours again with Comcast. No one seems understand this problem. I am very frustrated.

Is the *wireless adapter* supported in Vista?  Go to Device Manager -> Network Adapters and make sure there are no question marks, red cross-outs, or exclamation points in anything showing.  (There are cases of network adapters being supported in Windows XP, but not in Windows Vista or 7; the 3C9xx-TX series is supported directly by Windows XP and earlier, but not by either Vista or 7.)  Once you have determined that the network adapter *is* supported, try reconnecting manually to the wireless network (making sure the passphrase is entered exactly as it's supposed to be, case and all; passphrases ARE case-sensitive) and using the correct encryption protocol.
