Yesterday I've tried to enable SSHd in DD-WRT. The router rebooted but does not come up. It hang up. The power LED was orange but not flashing. I could see that an ethernet device was connected but it was no longer possible to ping or access the router. It looked like death.

I already thought that the router was bricked. I did a 30/30/30 reset of DD-WRT. After this the router  successfully booted again.

 Any ideas?

What release version did you use on DD-DRT? Some early releases had some problems.

I got an answer from DD-WRT forum that it was because to less available NVRAM. I had enabled OpenVPN and I was told that it use much amount of NVRAM. May be this is / was the issue. Since I have reset the router, I haven't enabled OpenVPN again since this, but I haven't tried to enable SSHd since that.

I had the same issue when moving from svn13401-std-ftp-usb to svn 13309-big.

Each and every changing to NVRAM caused the same problem that you described.

I had to reset the NVRAM and reconfigure everything manually.
