For some reason I can't figure out, my WNR3500L running default firmware randomly drops the LAN connection to the computers connected for a few seconds id say around 1-3 times a day, then automatially reconnects. Whats going on here, is there anything I can do to fix this? This is really annoying as I get disconnected from whatever im doing online (watching video, gaming, etc).

One thing u can do is that upgrade your WNR3500L box with latest Netgear WNR3500L f/w ... may b that solves ur issue .. :)

Tried updating to the new netgear firmware, and this problem is still occuring.

Drops all LAN connections at the same time or different ones at different times? ALso is it happening wired/wireless or both?

It drops each wired lan connection individually at different times, I havn't monitored the wireless.

I noticed during the brief lan connection drop (~3 seconds) that windows said there was limited or no connectivity on the lan.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do about this? This problem does not occur with any of my other older routers so im fairly confident the problem lies with this router somehow. I've tried reverting to factory default settings on my wnr3500l and this is still occuring.

How r u setting IP addresses of ur LAN interface ..is it static or r u using DHCP ... In case of DHCP r u able to get an IP ... Not getting a proper IP address is one of the reasons for getting the message " Limited or no connectivity" ..
Plz check that n let us know ...

I use DHCP and every computer has its own lan IP, the limited or no connectivity only occurs for a few seconds about 1-3 times a day and affects individial wired connections individually seemingly at random, causing every internet application/game to lose connection.

What should I do/where should I go to get support for this problem, because nothing is happening here and this problem is still occurring daily.

I have been having the same issue on a network with a Cisco\Linksys SLM2048, and even replaced the switch and still having the same exact issue. It only lasts about 3 seconds but some apps are too sensative to the interruption and crash or lock up.
There isn't much traffic on the network and everyone is using DHCP with reservations. I am beginnning to suspect it may be related to the DHCP server. I can't think of anything else, and any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Which firmware are you using ?

February 26, 2010 1:17 PM

On the Cisco Linksys SLM 2048 I am using the newest version 2.0.0.8 and it was also doing the same thing with the previous firmware as well. I don't believe it is the switch or router causing the issue.

Same problem. My router model is WNR3500L. I've had this mother ****** for about a week and it started around 3 days ago.

I never had this problem with the Linksys router I used prior to this one. I can rarely play more than 1 game of Smash Brothers before the piece of **** locks up and kicks me off.

What is causing this? My brain is racked.

What network card on clientside, 100 or 1000MBit card?
Are you guys using cables cat 5e or better?
When connected which transferrate is reported?
How long is the wire from the router to the pc?

Here is the thing,...there is no solution for your problem unless you hack the firmware source code and download it to your router.

I had this router too, and since I have no time to screw around with it, I just returned it to the store and got Cisco instead...I just hope it will behave more reasonably.

Now, let me explain the problem - DHCP Server.
Known fixes through Web Interface - NONE!
1) If you want to set the time for DHCP Client lease on your LAN - forget it, NETGEAR won't let you.
2) And if it did, you would be limited to 1 day only or less (Cisco and Netgear)
3) On this particular model, when the time is about for the Client Lease to be renewed, fking router drops your connection(I was happily playing my StarCraft II when that **** happened!)...just for a few sec...just enough to screw you up.

On this particula router, the default(and preset) Lease Time is 1 day...by DHCP spec, you should expect a drop every 12 hours(client requests a renewal every half-period of the lease). Surprisingly, this sht never happened to me before,...and I've had quite a few routers in my lifetime.

I've found quite a few discussions about this stuff...and a couple of people raised a reasonable question - WHY THE FK WE DO NEED LEASE ON OUR OWN LAN!?!?!
And some of the dumb responses were - use Client Reservation feature - as if this is a some sort of panacea. Guess what? This particular router DOES allow you to do DHCP Client Reservation - and it ain't helping squat. Drops your connection with the same success rate of nearly 100%.

I am a student and I work full time, I ain't bragging, but rather saying I have no time to deal with this junk. I wasted my weekend figuring out what's wrong with is piece of waste, and on monday evening I just returned it to the store. If the replacement - Cisco E2000 - won't do the trick, the next stop will be DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router. And after that, if all fails, I am buying goddamn switch and wireless AP, and setting up Linux server on microATX platform...it'll eat more power, but I'll have something more robust and reliable,...hopefully

P.S. Just for those who think they know better:
You don't.
1)I don't use wireless, so the problem wasn't with my radio.
2)I haven't used any conflicting settings...it's just goddamn plain impossible with netgear.
3)I have no problems with power lines (and it would be extremely weird if those problems with power would occur on the same schedule as the routers DHCP Client Lease period)
4)My wiring is alright, and the jacks are good
5)I might be missing something,...I know that.

P.S.S:
Heh, just noticed when this thread was opened...7 month, and the problem remains...cool! I am not buying Netgear ever...well, maybe until they start fixing their own mess.

I have exactly the same... been fighting with it for months, updated fw, nothing fixes it... piece of junk !!!!!!!!

The problem is still actual...
