Hi all I would like to make suggestions regarding the blocking of sites section of my router specifically the schedule.

I love having the ability to block sites but I really thinkthat being able to set a schedule for individual groups of sites or even individual key words would be fantastic for example as a parent with children in different age ranges I would like to block all porn related sites all the time, I would also like to block say facebook, bebo and chat sites on say school nights or at least during homework time and say after a certain time at night but not on weekends, problem is that its all or nothing if i set a schedule and its open on weekends then all the porn is open aswell. So all in all a useful feature but really could have been expanded to make it more versatile.

Regards you can send the royalty cheques to my home address lol

Sounds like you have everyone using just using one computer. How about a kids machine, dedicated to them and blocked to what you want and a "Parents" machine that only you use?

I have a parents machine, which is always on and not blocked lets face it parents need porn to keep them sane (that was a joke) we have several computers but the problem is that with the rangemax router you can only have one set of blocks on one schedule, eg porn and everything else always off or on a schedule with everythign lese which means that porn wopuld only be off or blocked when face book and bebo are blocked, So the original suggestion was to allow for each individual key word or group of key words to be blocked on different schedules. E.g. face book bebo and chat blocked during school nights and open at weekends, porn, ass **** and such blocked always.

Thanks

I think with DD-WRT you can have more than one access restriction on at a time.

Thanks I have read that, something that is annoying me is that when i read the DD-WRT compatibility pages it has different procedures for WNR834B ver 1 and WNR834B Ver 2 for the life of me i have looked everywhere and cannot find anything to tell me that my router is a particular version, any ideas I have looked in the GUI and it tells me that my router is WNR834B and has Firmware V1.0.4.0WW but doesnt say anything about which version the actual router is. ?? any thoughts

From the firmware version number it looks to me that you have WNR834B V1. Again I do not much idea of what is the difference between V1 and V2 as far as the hardware is concerned.

You can go to DD-WRT's database and type in your router to find which firmweare they recommend.

As a novice im not sure but I would expect that firmware and hardware are two completley different things example i have an original PS3 Version 1 but now the firmware is up to version 3.6 so just because the firmware says version 1.something doesnt mean that the hardware is version 1 so before i brick my router I would need to know definately. But thanks for the Reply.

As per the previous post Brandon I have already been to the compatibility database, problem is that there are two versions of my router Ver 1 and Ver 2 both have different instructions and different firmware versions recommended so until i find would what version my router is i wont be able to proceed. I have read every piece of the user manual and i have searched every number on the router there is no version indication anywhere.

Can anyone tell me how to distinguish between the different versions.

Thanks again for everyones input.

Looking at this site

 http://oldwiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs%282f%29Hardware%282f%29Netgear%282f%29...

maybe you can see if there is an FCC ID on it.

WNR834B v1 = FCC ID  PY306100032

WNR834B v2 = FCC ID  PY307100061

If not they have photos.
