Anyone using a NAS drive (via the USB port) with the WNR3500L seeing a problem with the file dates (on the NAS)? The dates of the files on the NAS do not appear to be correct -- but slightly off. For instance, a file on my PC's drive show the (correct) date as 11/2/2009 but on the NAS (ReadyShare) the date is showing 12/12/2009.

Just to be clear, the files in question are jpegs. I copied them from my desktop PC to the external drive (recently formatted to FAT32) via an eSATA connection. I then took the same external drive to my notebook PC and connected via a USB cable, and I copied all those aforementioned jpegs to my notebook PC. I then used SyncToy 2.1 to ensure the copy went well (and it appeared it did b/c it found no differences). Then I took the external drive to the WNR3500L router and connected it via USB. Next I setup that drive as a network drive on my notebook PC, changed/added a few files. Then I ran SyncToy again, but instead of just seeing the handful of changed/new files -- it saw ALL the files as new or changed. I then started investigating and determined all the files on the network USB drive were showing incorrect dates -- and it wasn't showing that when that same drive was connected via USB (instead of it being a NAS via the router). Anyone have any ideas on what the heck is going on?

I haven't noticed your file problem (I stuck a thumb drive in the 3500 usb port and it seems to be working fine) but I have noticed that the 3500 "logs" function doesn't work like the 614 "logs" function. It seems to me there may be a 3500 system clock problem that impacts both observed issues?

What do you see when you check the "logs" function in the 3500 admin screens?

I looked a little closer tonight, and it turns out local drive explorer window was displaying "Date" while the network drive was displaying "Modified Date". So I ran SyncToy Preview again, and actually the difference is only the time -- and all the files seem to be off by exactly 3 hours. So I think you might be right about the system clock problem with the 3500, but so far I haven't found place to set it on the router.

the logs are supposed to show which sites you have visited. your logs look like mine. i'm discussing with netgear tech support

I had to change my Router's time to Eastern -- even though I live in the Central time zone -- to get the times on the ReadyShare connected drive to show up properly. So the Netgear firmware definitely has bug with the time.

After I did that things looked better, but SyncToy 2.1 still seems to detect quite a few files (but at least not all like it was doing) as changed that didn't change. In some cases it even want to copy the file both ways (which doesn't make any sense). Maybe I need to be using a different syncing tool...

I'm seeing even bigger problem with ReadyShare now that I am using it more. Whenever I try to copy a directory of a ripped DVD (so it has several .VOB files, etc.) it starts out looking okay, but after the first big file gets copied and it starts on the second -- part way through it the first file is zero'd out (but not completely erased oddly enough). Even after the last file completes, after a minute or two I see it go to zero (in file size) too. This ReadyShare feature is looking more and more worthless.

I have tried transferring from two different PCs to the router's USB drive and the problem is still occurs. If I transfer (the same files) from a PC drive to a different PC drive (across the network), then I do not see it. So this router is getting returned! I strongly suggest anyone considering the WNR3500L who is intending to use the USB NAS drive feature (they call ReadyShare) to NOT buy this router. I intend to buy a Bufflao WZR-HP-G300NH instead; a coworker has one and based on his experience/tests its NAS drive functionality seems to be much better.

Hi STL, just a guess maybe this is because of a 2GB file size limit, VOBs are usually bigger.

If the NAS functionality on the WZR-HP-G300NH works, then it should also work on the wnr3500l buffalo ships with dd-wrt as stated on:

http://dd-wrt.com/site/index

Therefore you can install the same firmware as the buffalo, by flashing:-)

I have never seen a .vob file (from a ripped DVD) much bigger than 1GB. And in my case, I can say none were larger than 1.5GB -- so it's not some 2GB file size issue. The Buffalos aren't shipping with DD-WRT yet...at least not this model (but is suppose to in July). Thanks for the suggestion, but the router is boxed up and ready for Staples to come get it. Just too many issues with the WNR3500L; heck they cannot even get the time function (and DST) working correctly for crying out loud!
