WRT54GL and 3500L are different hardware. Which firmware are you using in WNR3500L ?
hi
i want to setup a dmz port
so i need to change the vlans so one of the ports will not be bridged with the other.
the commands that worked on my wrt54gl doesn't work on the 3500L
any idea ?

What are those commands that you executed in wrt54gl ?
In kamikaze you can do remote login and configure the vlan properly so that you have three interfaces. Otherwise you can modify the source code and recompile it. In both case I think you need to modify netconfig file to achieve this. You may find this file in your distribution in the path below
"8.09.2/target/linux/brcm-2.4/base-files/etc/init.d/netconfig"
Among these three interfaces you can use one for DMZ.
