I have not done any tests with openvpn, since this is dd-wrt default with no modifications from my side. But dd-wrt folks reworking the whole vpn implementation right now. So there will be a lot of openvpn changes in the next build.
I am trying to install openvpn. Why is it that everytime i install certificates and configure firewall and startup scripts, my router bricks and i have to unbrick it and start over? I am somewhat a newbie. I have tried a few different tutorials and the outcome is the same.

nevermind. i loaded tomato and setup vpn with the same instructions and it worked the first time.
