I originally started out with the WNR3500L standard OEM firmware, attaching a USB hard disk drive (HDD) and being able to access it from any PC on my office network.

I then decided that I would like to be able to securely access this HDD and my attached Ethernet wired network printer remotely via the internet with my all LAN PC's turned off. This was going to require a VPN, so I flashed my WNR3500L to DD-WRT Kong Mod USB/FTP/SAMBA3/OpenVPN/Proxy. With this DD-WRT Kong Mod, I again set up my USB HDD as a network attached storage (NAS) formatted to ext3.

I am not very bright, only a ship design engineer, so I have been having difficulty trying get a handle on setting up the OpenVPN included in the DD-WRT Kong Mod. I have now discovered that a version of the OEM firmware is available with something called Leaf Networks included.

From my reading up on this Leaf Networking, it would appear that it may be much easier to set up on the WNR3500L than OpenVPN and give me a simple secure VPN arrangement to remotely access my office network.

Before I flash back to the OEM firmware with Leaf Networks, has anyone had experience using the OEM firmware with Leaf Networks on the WNR3500L and, if so, do you have any comments or suggestions?

Netgear WNR3500L, DD-WRT Kong Mod USB/FTP/SAMBA3/OpenVPN/Proxy Build 18010M, Win XP Home SP3, Firefox 8, ethernet to GlobeSurfer II modem.
