Hello,

I'm quite new to this modding scene so I want to make sure I don't goof anything up.

I read several articles:

And as I understand it I should be able to use the first tutorial as follows...

For first flash (running original Netgear's firmware) or for tftp
please use dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_mini_wgr614v8-L.chk file.

Compatible builds for Netgear routers:

dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_mini_hotspot.bin
dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_std.bin

The problem is 12250 seems quite dated. So I'm hoping I can get up to snow. Is it ok to... *HARD RESET* followed by...

As I understand it this would get me Snow onto my old legacy router. Am I right? If not I certainly don't want to risk bricking the thing, so let me know the safest method to get the latest Standard version of DD-WRT.

The downloads section of MyOpenRouter has build 13094 for the initial flash which is the most recent (dated  4-11-10): Link

I supposed one of the newer builds you list may work also but my suggestion would be to stick with the one provided from here since it has been tested enough and then flash to a newer build.

Afraid I ran into a bit of trouble. When I attempt to flash "any" .CHK file it simply states...
Firmware upgrade failed. Please check your file.

Specs:


Hardware Version WGR614V9
Firmware Version V1.2.30_41.0.44NA(does not work with CD version below 2.0)


I tested the initial one you gave (DD-WRT), Tomato 1.25, and an OpenWRT. None work. What now? :(

You have a V9, not a V8. The v9 is not flashable. See the DD-WRT database here.

Ouch. I was under the impression this router was OpenSource...
So does any custom firmware work on this thing? :/
