Hello,

I flash my WNR3500L from tftp after debricking without usb-ttl.

I turn device off too early

And now only 1st and 3rd leds are working, but they glow dimly.

There are no link on ethernet. How do i fix this?

USB-TTL, or JTAG?

From Kong.

If it is bricked, the router should not react to pings.
You have two choices to debrick it then.

Choice 1:

or safer:

Hey, i said that i recently use PIN method.

I have the same problem as toolbox at http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/20501/Reset-Debrick-NETGEAR-WNR3500L-Pin-...

I also have a bricked unit with only the power (green) and wireless (blue) dimly lighted when power is on. Also, my PC/laptop does not detect it when I connect the router to my PC(my network adapter indicate network cable is unplugged). Tried shorting the two pins but no result. Is the TTL serial cable the last resort?[/quote]

Hi MiklerGM,

the router is still bricked. You have to use short pin again and make sure you flash either the original netgear chk file or a mini dd-wrt build in chk format the router does not accept other builds using tftp.

You do not have to turn the router off, once it received the firmware via tftp it will reboot automatically.

Hello, Kong,

i have no link, no ping, i can't connect to the router via tftp.
i try to use pin short method, but it does not work

The short pin has to be done right after you receive the first ping. In case the router is bricked you will get 2 pings.

So basically you have to start a command window prior to powering on the router and call ping e.g. under windows with option -t:

ping -t 192.168.1.1

You should see only two pings after you switch on the router. The timing is important. Maybe the first time you were lucky:-)
Now right when you see the first ping short it, after that ping should continue.

If there is no link at all(and you rebooted your computer) then you can try with JTAG. But if you don't have link at all the cfe must be broken which does not happen by regular flashing, cfe can only be cleared through JTAG.

Hmm, i have some questions:

jtag != connect to serial port

And if i can connect to the serial port via com-port or usb-to-rsr232 i can't clear cfe in this way?
How i can create a jtag for this router?

I would just buy the FTDI TTL-232R-3V3 and solder the pin header onto the board. That's what I'm using. Some guys even use the TTL-232R-3V3-AJ + an audio jack added to the router.

Hhpf, and this cable can help me?
I think that i have some troubles to buy it, but i'll try.

else i'll try to compile it by hands.

Hey, I also got the static blue wifi and static green power leds without any other LEDs even flashing upon power on and no single ping response upon power on. Pin short gives no response. Guess its a damaged bootloader :( Anyone managed to fix it?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. Once I power on the device the green power led lights up, and approx. one second later the blue wireless led turns on but less bright. So no boot sequence or anything that you can tell by the leds at least.

I think the CFE is broken. I have tried with the USB-TTL serial cable and nothing happens in my putty terminal. I also have another working WNR3500L, which I have hooked up to the same USB-TTL cable, and that works just fine, which tells me that I have all the settings related to the serial cable correct.

Does anyone know if there is a way to restore the cfe in this case? I can obvioulsy back it up from my working router, however I don't know how to put it onto the bricked one.

Hi, I have this issue this morning. I wanted to reboot and... nothing but the green power LED (and a little blue wifi led). No ping, nothing.
What did you do then to solve the issue ?
