i am looking for a tomatousb build with the same broadcom driver as ddwrt 14929. i love the functionality of tomato but the wireless performance is horrible. and when i go to mount my WD 1tb mybook essential to ddwrt 14929 or any other ddwrt build it is not recognized. So toastman tomato/regular tomato = great features... ddwrt= great router but i want both.

Toastman any luck with the weak signal on the RT-N16 ?

Seems that my 2wire adsl modem with no antenna at 40% "default" has better signal than the RT-N16 at 228mw.

PS> I have tested with my android phone and metageek android "insider clone" app each antenna on several dd-wrt / tomato / oleg firmware and either someone has put 10% of actual values in the wifi signal strength "mw" or I just have a very lame RT-N16, I don't want to set the power to 400mw or 100%as it might be too high for the RT-N16.

Will test the Vlan version next then post the results, maybe you can find where and when the bug came into dd-wrt/tomato.

Okay here is some of the testing below.

Out of pure frustration I ended up downloading the (dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_RT-N16.trx) and for the first time when I set it too 228mw metageek on my laptop sees a major -20dBm jump instead of a sneeze from this below versions.
Same for metageek insider on my android phone, looks like 14929 swallowed a bottle of viagra or something. -26dBm avg 1 inch or 30 inches away.

Default dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_RT-N16.trx 17mw settings is now equivalent to my 20m+ away fridge + 2 mirrors + 2 walls 40% power 2wire adsl modem "no antenna" but rt-n16 is 20~30" away from laptops 2 antenna's. 228mw goes to -30 ~ -26dBm at 30" .

Around 14929 "dd-wrt" or later the wifi got messed up or has received a defective broadcom driver / setting.

In 2007 with the same linux kernel 2.6.22/24 numbers for x86 we had similar issues with broadcom drivers. Worth looking into or using the 2.6.36/9 mips kernel broadcom drivers.

Hi toastman i am trying to get some help to the following. i have searched the net and found i post from yourself that said to reboot the router i have tried that

I have portforwarded 8080
ext 8080
int 8080
int address 192.168.1.55
desc DVR

but when i go to http://www.dyndns.com/support/tools/openport.html and put in 8080 it errors everytime.
An attempted connection to 82.8.251.130:8080 timed out. This typically indicates that traffic to that port is being actively blocked by either a firewall or your ISP.

Please can anyone help. I have Toastmans. latest firmware tomato-K26USB-1.28.7480MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-Ext

I have changed the port from 8080 to 8181 and the problem is still there.

i can access the router gui from 8080 but still no open port on 8181.

I have done some testing with roadkil's scanport version 1.3
and the following show as open
Port 23 Open (telnet)
Port 53 Open (domain)
Port 8080 Open
Port 8181 Open
Port 9100 Open
Port 35484 Open
Port 65559 Open (telnet)
Port 65589 Open (domain)
Port 73616 Open
Port 73717 Open
Port 74636 Open

but the only one that does show open through open port tool is 8080 which as you said is for tomato web.

I have added the last 3 ports to port forwarding and still doesn't work

I have reinstalled the firmware and then downgraded it then back to the same one and now is working oks.

I just did an upgrade from 1.28.7444 to 1.28.7481 and chose the VPN-NOCAT build.
Alltough I don't think Ill ever use the Captive Portal.

OpenVPN on the other hand.

Ever since I migrated from *cough* M$ Forefront 2010 and configured OpenVPN to use port 443, trouble with connections have been a thing of the past. No Corporate Firewall/Proxy has been able to stand in the way of that.
I have to respect locations where you may not connect alien laptops to their network.

I had some troubles over time ( with the 7444 build ). But nothing a good google session for the right configs could not solve.

All in all, I have not encountered real issues with the firmware itself.

It helped me. I can now install the mini onto my WNR2000 router that I use for backup or bridging.

What are the thoughts on adding some kind of bandwidth usage monitoring to Toastman?

It's a fairly common use-case, particularly in countries where ISPs have download/upload limits - you want to track the usage by each user.

Gargoyle has it integrated (http://www.gargoyle-router.com/) but there are also standalone packages as well.

I've used this package before:

and it's quite good, but it's a real pain to setup each time.

Any chance of something like this being integrated into the Toastman builds?
