If you're the lucky owner of a WNDR3800, make sure you check for the latest firmware updates. Update 1.0.0.24 adds support for 3 terabyte drives (previously, only up to 2TB drives were supported) as well as several other fixes:

*         Supports Apple MAC OS Lion 10.7 for Time Machine

*         Supports 3 TB HDD. Previously it was supporting just 2 TB.

*         Fixes the Internet DNS Disconnect issue that many of the customers faced.

What HDDs are supported? I'm backing up Macbooks with exiting 2 TB drives containing previous backups of each macbook and the router fails to find the files on either drive. When it does write it thinks it ran out of space copying < 1 GB

Have you, or anyone, been able to use an attached drive to router for Time Machine back-ups?
It worked fine for me through an SMB connection with Snow Leopard, but has ceased since my upgrade to OSX Lion as Apple has upgraded their Netatalk thus removing the ability to use both AFP & SMB.

This worked for me. I followed the steps to enable DHCAST128.
