ping localhost returns:
127.0.0.1
Categories: Troubleshooting
My WNR3500L has stopped responding. I was trying to get it to see a wireless IP camera and am guessing I may have changed something that I should not have.
It did have Tomato loaded.
I tried 30-30-30 and no joy.
Whe I try various pings:
ping 192.168.X.X
ping 192.168.1.1
ping 192.168.10.10
... the message is always the same "bad address"
What is this telling me, please?
Do not use the ping localhost, ping only your computer and not the network you're connected to. What is your ip to your computer?
Just a low life like me understands absolutly nothing
I have the router sitting next to a laptop and connected from port 1 to the laptop.
I tried 30-30-30 and the factory reset button for 10 sec. No joy.
The Internet line is not plugged in as I only want to get into the router's OS and reset things.
I used to be able to go to 192.168.1.1 and log into Tomato (and prior to that the Netgear OS) but now I can only see 192.168.10.31 via ping and my web browser fails on both 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.10.31.
I'm not sure what else to try.
Aha you are using Tomato.
Toastmans build have DHCP turned off by deffault.
Set you computer to static ip-number, log in and change your settings.
Should these work?
Static IP Parameters
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
NetMask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
DNS Parameters
Primary: 0.0.0.0
Secondary: 0.0.0.0

192.168.1.10
255.255.255.0
Should work, don't forget to turn back after you have done your settings, (turning dhcp on).
Those settings worked ... I just had to figure out the user and password ... which I did.
THANKS!
All of my old Tomato settings have been wiped ... so I need to rebuild my Access Restrictions and try to remember other tweaks.
WAN/Internet
Type DHCP
MTU Default 1500
Down further under LAN it says DHCP disabled by default.
If I plan several wired and several wireless users do I need to activate DHCP under LAN?
Static DHCP
Do I need to uncheck "Enable Static ARP"?
Any other settings I need to make?
Also, is Tomato 1.28 recent enough or should I update?
I guess Toastman has already provided updated Tomato firmware. You may try that.
OK, thanks ...
One thing I figured out is that the WNR3500L router needs to be set as a "Gateway" and not a "Router" when it is connected to a fiber interface for Internet access ... chased my tech-tail that one for many hours, never suspecting it.

ping 192.168.10.31 generates a stream of ...
64 bytes from 192.168.10.31: seq =X ttl=64 time=0 .XXX ms
So does that mean that I had changed something to 192.168.10.31 (which was a value I was testing with the camera).
The browser fails to connect to 192.168.10.31.
How do I switch the router back to 192.168.1.1 so I can get to the Tomato menu?
