Hello All! I'd like to quickly introduce myself and why I'm here with all of you before starting to post, well...useful articles. I've been interested in open source software and especially the companies that embrace it since my discovery of the idea of open source development. I'm currently persuing my Bachelor's in E-Business through DePaul University in Chicago and I'm highly involved with the Coleman Entrepreneurship Center there. In fact, I was this years 2008 Entrepreneurial Student of the Year as well as one of the Illinois Technology Association's "Top 50 for the Future" award winners. Backtracking a little; I was always a bit of an entrepreneur and love all that revolves around business. In highschool I founded a website design and programming firm that still successfully operates today as well as a number of other small ventures. Currently, I'm growing a Wi-Fi hotspot management and promotion business, Titan Hotspots, and having a lot of fun with it. I found this community through a few good networking sessions and my insatiable appetite to create a more stable, faster, and promising hotspot solution for my clients. With all the promising aspects of the Netgear WGR614L, we quickly moved to using it...

Open firmware on WGR614 v7

I have the WGR614 v7 router and like to try some open firmware on it. Don’t need to buy the L version only to realize that something is impossible or don’t satisfy my needs. So, if u guys can help me identify parts under the hood and give some advice, I’ll be thankful. Important for me is: 1) amount of Flash and SDRAM memory in this model. 2) Is there some control mechanism when I flash the image from the NETGEAR web GUI? Checking the amount of available flash memory and size of the flashed image, before flashing. Or it only start’s to write data to the flash until the end of the addressing space? Inside the “whitebox” I found: ATHEROS AR2317-AC1A T721602.1B 0737 - on-chip system 32 bit CPU, integrated WLAN radio with extended range technology More details here: http://www.atheros.com/pt/AR5007AP-G.htm Infineon ADM6996FC AD0730 HA 1Z7 19002X05 - it should be the ethernet switch MX X073524 25L 1605AMC-15G 2W233900 - this is the Flash chip from Macronix, but I’m not sure whether it is 2MB or 4MB chip. SI IC42S16400-7TG A1674600W 2725 -SDRAM, don’t know the capacity Datasheet here: http://web.icsi.com.tw/domino/packinfo.nsf/52f58d7f87026c0348256b11000d63a0/727fa1dcc13a325948256f320003c65a/$FILE/42s16400(RevE).pdf
