I just installed this router and setup my devices on the access control list. Everything was working fine until I disabled SSID broadcast and then none of the devices could connect the next time they tried to get on. What am I doing wrong? This worked fine on my old WGR614.

If you are Spanish or French you probably noticed that it is now impossible to post in your own language. the reason is that DD-WRT.com mods team did not find persone they are confident enough to promote as mod for this section. This is bothering for people that did not speak english. I don't know for spanish but some french members decided to open a independant french section to support people that did not speak english but just french. So i'm going to announce it in french here because i'm sure lot of french people will appreciate. Note: this is not schisme, nor hijacking, just a complement for people that do not speak english.

Hi guys, Before I bought my router, when I connected my PS3 directly to my cable modem and do an "Internet Connection Test" I got everything ok, up until NAT Type, after that, before the Speed test starts, I get this message: "The router in use may not support IP fragments, and the communication features of some games may be restricted. For details, contact the router manufacturer." I thought that buying a quality router like the WNR3500L, and installing some good custom firmware in it will fix my problem, but the same thing keeps happening. Any ideas? Any of you guys out there with this router get the same problem with your PS3? I'm using Kong's latest DD-WRT btw -dd-wrt-usb-ftp-samba3-dlna-O2-v24-K26-broadcom.bin
[Read more]

Tomato to DD-WRT?

Hey guys, Thanks a lot for all the help you've given me the past couple days. You've all been really great... and very kind to the noob. I have another question. I'm currently on one of the latest Kong's DD-WRT build, dd-wrt-usb-ftp-samba3-dlna-O2-v24-K26-broadcom.bin. I know eventually when I get some more time, I will get curious about Toastman's Tomato. So... How do you change from Tomato back to DD-WRT? I know that to change from DD-WRT to Tomato, I change the Tomato .trx extension to .bin and upgrade. Is it simply the other way around for Tomato to DD-WRT? I've also read the How-To Switch Firmware which tells; "How To Reflash Factory Firmware on the NETGEAR WRN3500L Without A Serial Cable" using telnet and TFTP through cmd. None of these tell me how to switch from Tomato back to anything.

Tomato and Router Talks

Having never used Tomato myself, I'm hoping you experts can help me understand the lingo. I was going for this one: tomato-K26USB-1.28.7476MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-Ext.trx.zip because it's on your forum and most used, and I don't know any better. My friend recommened this: tomato-K26USB-1.28.7486.2MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-VPN+NOCAT.trx because it's a newer build. Now I agree that newer build is better, cause it should have less bugs, more features, more security and greater stability. But since I don't know much about router lingo, what it means to me is confusing. To me: VPN means: the ability to set up a private network NOCAT means I cannot use my gigabit LAN ports... which would suck, since that's partially why I bought this router. So can you guys help me understand the lingo: What do these terms mean: MIPSR1 MIPSR2 VPN NOCAT RT VLAN-RT (Virtual LAN-RT?) RT-MINI RT-Lite RT-Ext (Extended? The Ext file is much larger than the Std, which is larger than the Lite) RT-Std (Standard? what exactly is standard?) RT-VPN NoUSB (I'm guessing can't use the usb port on router) NVRAM (Non Volatile RAM? What does this have to do with the firmware?) VLAN-RT-N IPv6 why are some (tomato) files .trx and some .bin? Also I was...

Hi Everyone - First Post

Hi guys, This is my first post here. I'm a router noob (though I'm a bit of a computer and xbox nerd), so please be gentle with the comments. I have a new WNR3500L, my very first router. Can anyone tell me what firmware you use and why you think it's best? I have a bias to Tomato and Tomato based firmware, like Toastman because of 3 reasons: 1. A couple years ago Maximum PC reviewed the then Tomato firmware and I believe it got a 9.0, which is very very high for them. And those guys know their stuff. 2. 2 of my friends, both self proclaimed router nerds, use Tomato. 3. In one of your pages: http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/18273/How-To-Maximize-Wireless-Performance-on-NETGEAR-WNR3500L/ The author used Tomato firmware as his base to 'Maximize Wireless Performance'. So having not used it myself, these are the reasons I think Tomato is best.

alternative firmware web monitoring

I currently have Tomato and DD-WRT firmwares on two different Linksys routers in my home. The Tomato based Linksys router is my main router for the whole house. The DD-WRT based Linksys router has essentially been converted to a 5 port switch & wireless access point in another part of the home. Both work great and no complaints. I was wondering if either firmware can totally monitor the website activity throughout my entire home network (that has multiple other switches in different rooms)? I'm looking to be able to get some sort of report of ALL the websites that have been visted in a given month (or other time frame). While the Tomato firmware is the main router right now, I could switch it so the DD-WRT firmware becomes the main router right after my cable modem. Is this monitoring feature possible with Tomato and/or DD-WRT?

Got kids, can't block youtube.com because we need it for other purposes too (educational, work). But want to block certain things by regex on the html title, i.e. in the packet. E.g. some video game names in HTML's title. Sloppy is OK, doesn't have to be perfect. Any ideas how to achieve that, on a router? Don't want per machine or browser in the hone. Can't admin all the machines two IT parents and several kids have. I am longtime Netgear user with some IT admin and coding skills, would upgrade my WNDR to an open source WNDR if possible. Would code a little bit. Would use other solution too.

So after much consideration I picked up a WNR3500L the other day to replace a D-Link POS wbr-1310. Out of the box I was immediately satisfied with the router. Easy to use, did what it was told. Good stuff. This is my first open source router and once I was satisifed with the stock firmware I put dd-wrt on it, with plans to go to Tomato shortly. While the additional untilites and the such in DD-WRT are nice I saw no siginificant improvement in the connection. With all that said here's my question. I've got a laptop with a 802.11a/b/g Draft n 2.0 Atheros AR5B91 connecting from about 10 feet away. With both the stock and dd-wrt I can only get a connection of about 65 megabits per second. I was kind of hoping for more, however this connection is certainly nice. I've got the antenna power set to 71mw and the connection type set to Mixed. I suspect that the limitation is on the laptop side and was considering getting a USB wireless adaptor to see if I got a better connection. Before that I was hoping someone on here might have some ideas on bgetting a better wireless...

Router for a small hostel

Hi, I need to setup a router for a small hostel with 52 beds. A lot of the residents have more than one wifi device, so the router must be capable of handling 50-100 clients. The current router just doesnt let anyone connect to the wifi if there are too many clients connected already. One important feature is traffic monitoring, since the hostel has only a certain amount of traffic available every month the owners must be able to watch how much is being used. It would be great if one could see how much traffic each client used to identify who is downloading stuff (which is not allowed in the hostel, but people still do it!). It would be great if one could set the router up to email the staff if the traffic goes up to quickly! Another important feature is being able to block websites and setup rules only to allow connections to certain outgoing ports. The current router has the limitation of only allowing 8 rules, which is not enough. I have a lot of experience with linux and programing in c and php, so if some of the things I need are possible, but just...

Little advice, please

I have a DGN2200. There's probably no need to tell people here, of all places, that out of the box, the thing is not very configurable. It's alright - but it's really inadequate for traffic shaping needs. Can I mod this modem/router so that it shapes traffic similar to Wondershaper - or should I just invest in one of the routers listed above, under 'Products'? I have found the source code for the DGN2200 firmware. I can compile it, then flash it - but my development and/or hacking skills are not up to the task of modifying that source code very much. I suppose that there is a reason that I have not found a subforum here for that DGN2200. The real developers and hackers have probably found that it is easier, and more efficient to develop for the WNDR3800, or the WNR3500L. If someone can point me to a good source for firmware for this router, I'd appreciate it. If not, then I'll probably purchase one of the above routers to work with. Many thanks!
