Having installed dd-wrt on a Linksys WRT54Gv8, I wanted to get the same features on my trusty WGR614. Story short, read the instructions, downloaded software and couldn't wait until the next morning to give it a try. I did performed a router upgrade to the latest release from Netgear, found out they added a basic support for QoS settings and wireless repeaters.... but I wanted more. Router is running great, modified the wireless security settings and all the laptops, including a macbook, authenticated as they previously did with the Netgear code. Glad to see the hotspot options, I might give it a try. Thank you, Nachi and Peter.

Coupling routers to achieve same subnet

Hey all, Does anyone know of any problems coupling a Linksys WRT54GL with the WGR614L? I turned off DHCP on the Netgear router (running latest DD-WRT) and set my gateway to the parenting Linksys. I also set the DNS correctly. The DHCP is enabled on the Linksys to that it can hand out IPs. Sometimes I am unable to see network shares on computers hooked up to the Netgear from a computer hooked up to the Linksys even though they should be on the same subnet now. Perhaps just a sporatic problem or me not waiting long enough for discovery?

When I first connected this router (with the factory Netgear load), all lights were green. Now, that I've loaded DD-WRT, my internet and check mark lights are yellow. What is the check mark light, and why are both of these lights yellow? This seems like info that would be on this site, but I searched and couldn't find anything about the significance of these lights. Thanks for any help!

Is it possible with the WGR614L using any of the firmwares to implement a captive portal. The idea is to intercept all traffic and redirect browser to a page on our company web server that has a disclaimer and company info. The user will then have to accept this disclaimer before we allow them to go externally. Any suggestions on which of the firmwares are best for achieving this? Many thanks

Hello, According to the software list of precompiled modules: http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/10067/WGR614L-Software-Specifications/?hi... There is a PPTP client in the router. My question is, how do I usr/configure it? The best I can get through the web interface is PPTP passthrough in port forwarding. I would configure it via the command line, however althrough port 23 (telnet) is open there does not appear to be a server to connect to. It just sits there. Any thoughts on using the PPTP Client?

I just got this router to replace the Linksys wrt54gs that has LAN troubles. I got this one up and running according to the instructions. I now have no access to the internet through it. The router log says the Wan Disconnected.... that's it. The LAN side of this router seems just fine. Now, I have my linksys between this one and the comcast surfboard. My linksys is providing the access to the cable modem and the netgear is providing the correct LAN operations. I'm thinking that this would be a comcast thing. I've tried everything to get the modem to release the MAC of the Linksys....but it won't. When only the netgear is plugged into the modem....I cannot access the modem's setup page either. But, with the linksys in there, I can now see and access the netgear setup pages, the linksys setup pages, and the surfboard's setup pages. I may not need you guy's help just yet....I've so far, only found a place to voice my thoughts while trying to get this going. I've got to call Comcast (ISP) and ask them about the modem and why it will not reset to the new router even after multiple...
