Hi, occasionally the logs of my WGR614v8 (stock firmware) show DOS attacks: Smurf from the external IP of the router STORM from the internal IP of my Mac What are the conditions for those alerts to occur? Because I seriously doubt either is a real attack.

Bricked WGR614v8 - tftp - it don't wanna flash ( fixed )

I bricked my router , wanted to test other firmware , had DD-wrt installed. I did "erase linux" then "reboot". And router rebooted ready to upgrade firmware via tftp. BUT ... any firmware ( including original ) don't wanna flash. Upload to router is always successful but router don't flashes it. I tried lot of firmwares , sometimes green light blinking is always same after fw was sent and sometimes green light stops blinking for few seconds and starts blinking again in same speed... I don't have serial so can't flash via it. Any idea ?

To my dissapointment all documentation recommends repartitioning my disk drive to a different filesystem, 90% of the documentation out there expects you to use ext3. I wish to have a practical simple set-up with my RangeMax 3500L and BlackArmor WS-110 2TB disk drive so that I can both connect the USB drive via my router and connect it via eSata directly to my Windows workstation, if I wanted. I used the following package for patching via the Netgear firmware "dd-wrt.v24-14289_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR3500L". My services tab contains hardly any options and I doubt it supports NTFS. Is realizing a practical simple set-up with features of shares in Windows, torrent-client, ftp-server and webserver possible? I do have experience in logging in via SSH/telnet, but I do not want to customize too much myself via telnet/ssh. Such a learning curve is likely to cost me a few days of work.

is attach my 1.5TB hard drive to the available USB port on the router, stream movies to my PS3slim and my computers upstairs which for the moment are Wireless G but will be wireless N soon. My PS3 is hardwired to the gigabit port. The firmware I currently have installed is I have been googling around on what to do next to enable the PS3 Slim so that it can see the hard drive as a media server. I also want write functionality to it so I can rip my movies directly to the drive over the network without having to disconnect it from the router. I see that ushare can do what I am hoping to accomplish but it's requiring some sort of optware package? HUH? Like I said i'm a noob with custom router firmware. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to set this up? I don't know whether or not these files need to be listed on the external hard drive or the router itself. Please if there is a howto guide for this please send me the link. BTW my harddrive is formatted as NTFS and is USB 2.0

Right now all customization I want from my vanilla WGR614L is getting rid of the LED. Telnetting in /sbin has leddown as a symlink to acos_service, but it doesn't help much. I could not find the source for it. It seems that /sbin/gpio should be able to set what individual LEDs do, but with one argument it always SIGSEGV, and two don't do anything. I tried the values from wlioctl.h, verbatim.

Long story short; I'm trying to setup my wireless router (WGR614 ver9) at my new apartment. The trouble is that I have a new computer with Windows 7 and the startup wizard won't support it. My questions are as follows: IS there a setup wizard available for Windows 7? How do I set up manually. (I am not very skilled with these sort of things, so the manual instructions PDF I found on the Netgear site wasn't very helpful...) Could I use the setup wizard on a different computer with Windows XP and then hook it back up to my Windows 7 PC? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated, and thatnk you in advance. Hope to see some replies soon! **Also of note, I tried hooking things up, foregoing the setup wizard. The connection that it found was the connection my neighbor used when she was borrowing my router (it had the name she gave the connection and everything). It said I was connected but had no internet access. Just wondering what that is about, I guess.

I made a 3.3v to +-12 RS232 adapter for my WRG614 and was able to succesfully connect it to my terminal emulator. However, the serial set up was 9600,n,8,1, not 115200.... and the debug port spewed out a much different console status. Not the mentioned CFE> prompt. It ended up with the Unix Login: prompt. 1) Is login disabled by default? If not what is a default factory user name/password. root:passwd admin:passwd don't seem to work. 2) Is it possible to flash the router with minimal Linux and use it as a single board computer of sorts. My intended application was to connect a GPS to the debug port and have a program imbedded in the router, record the NEMA data from the GPS. When the board got near an unsecured Wifi, it would upload as much of the recorded track as possible to a server. If these questions have already been answered, I appologize for being a noob to open router, I could not find them anywhere on this site. Thanks Richard Below is the debug port spew. Attaching to TFFS... done. Loading /fl/APIMG1... Decompressing... / OK. Starting at 0x80010000... /fl/ - Volume is OK Reading Configuration File "/fl/apcfg"....

Problem is when i update router with DD-WRT and he is recognised as Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS MAC Adresses of WAN and LAN are same and some leds are swapped (power=V(and is yellow) and Internet form green becomes yellow) Is this a normal behavior?
