wgr614v9 unmodified recompile of netgear firmware not accepted

I've just tried recompiling the most recent international version of the stock netgear firmware for the wgr614v9, and although the build appears to complete without errors and produces a .chk file, the file is not accepted by the router. The precompiled version from netgear's website is accepted, under apparently identical circumstances. The OS under which it was compiled was ubuntu, not redhat, and the trx utility used was from the v10 sources, since the v9 sources contain a 64bit version which I can't run. Do either of these differences explain why the file is not accepted ? Or is there some other possible reason why it failed ?
[Read more]

LZMA can't find libstdc++.so.5

Total newbie here - I decided to try building DDWRT for the WGR614 since I happen to have one from a few years ago. Once I fixed a few things I found answered on this site (get 32-bit trx.zip, etc) I almost made it, but now I'm stuck. During the final "make install" step I got this: ########################################## ### Create LZMA kernel #################### mipsel-linux-objcopy -O binary -g /home/jbartas/work/ddwrt/bcm5354/src/linux/linux/vmlinux /home/jbartas/work/ddwrt/bcm5354/src/router/mipsel/vmlinux.bin ../../tools/lzma e /home/jbartas/work/ddwrt/bcm5354/src/router/mipsel/vmlinux.bin /home/jbartas/work/ddwrt/bcm5354/src/router/mipsel/vmlinux.lzma ../../tools/lzma: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory The ./lib Makefile has some instructions to build this, but they are commented out. I un-commented them (I know, dangerous) and the named file was built, but lzma still can't find it. My quesitons: 1) What exactly is this file? 2) Why is it commented out of the Makefile? 3) Why does lzma want it? 4) Why can't lzma find it in the lib directory? I want to learn here, so don't spare the technical details :-) Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. -JB-
[Read more]

I'm trying to port forward but I'm failing at it. So I have a Netgear WGR614 Router, and a Westell 610015 Modem. I gave myself a static IP, then tried port forwarding, didn't work. So I tried setting it to bridge mode, but it won't let me back on the internet. BUT, I can't use bridge mode because I have 3 other computers in the house that use wireless. So is there any other way to port forward? Thanks in advance.
[Read more]

Help Flashing latest DD-WRT from original firmware?

Hello, I'm quite new to this modding scene so I want to make sure I don't goof anything up. I read several articles: http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/10339/DD-WRT-for-NETGEAR-WGR614L-Installation-Guide/ http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WGR614_v8 http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn12250/Netgear_readme.txt And as I understand it I should be able to use the first tutorial as follows... For first flash (running original Netgear's firmware) or for tftp please use dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_mini_wgr614v8-L.chk file. Compatible builds for Netgear routers: dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_mini.bin dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_mini_hotspot.bin dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_std.bin dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_std-nokaid.bin dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_std-nokaid_nohotspot_nostor.bin dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_voip.bin dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_openvpn_jffs_small.bin dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_openvpn.bin The problem is 12250 seems quite dated. So I'm hoping I can get up to snow. Is it ok to... *HARD RESET* followed by... http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn12250/dd-wrt.v24-12250_NEWD_mini_wgr614v8-L.chk and/or: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn15943-snow/dd-wrt.v24-15943_NEWD_mini_wgr614v8-L.chk *HARD RESET* followed by http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn15943-snow/dd-wrt.v24-15943_NEWD_std-nokaid.bin ??? As I understand it this would get me Snow onto my old legacy router. Am I right? If not I certainly don't want to risk bricking the thing, so let me know the safest method to get the latest Standard version of DD-WRT.
[Read more]

I have a WGR614v8 running firmware V1.2.10_21.0.52NA. I looked through the web interface. But didn't find it. Is there anyway to disable login to the webinterface if you are using the wireless. i.e. not hardwared in via twisted pair? Basically, I am just trying to screw down security more. I have access control on, so I have to manually add each device to use it. I'm just being extra paranoid. Being able to control that access list from a non hardwired machine bugs me.
[Read more]

I bricked my router , wanted to test other firmware , had DD-wrt installed. I did "erase linux" then "reboot". And router rebooted ready to upgrade firmware via tftp. BUT ... any firmware ( including original ) don't wanna flash. Upload to router is always successful but router don't flashes it. I tried lot of firmwares , sometimes green light blinking is always same after fw was sent and sometimes green light stops blinking for few seconds and starts blinking again in same speed... I don't have serial so can't flash via it.

To my dissapointment all documentation recommends repartitioning my disk drive to a different filesystem, 90% of the documentation out there expects you to use ext3. I wish to have a practical simple set-up with my RangeMax 3500L and BlackArmor WS-110 2TB disk drive so that I can both connect the USB drive via my router and connect it via eSata directly to my Windows workstation, if I wanted. I used the following package for patching via the Netgear firmware "dd-wrt.v24-14289_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR3500L". My services tab contains hardly any options and I doubt it supports NTFS. Is realizing a practical simple set-up with features of shares in Windows, torrent-client, ftp-server and webserver possible? I do have experience in logging in via SSH/telnet, but I do not want to customize too much myself via telnet/ssh. Such a learning curve is likely to cost me a few days of work.
[Read more]

What I want to do is

is attach my 1.5TB hard drive to the available USB port on the router, stream movies to my PS3slim and my computers upstairs which for the moment are Wireless G but will be wireless N soon. My PS3 is hardwired to the gigabit port. The firmware I currently have installed is I have been googling around on what to do next to enable the PS3 Slim so that it can see the hard drive as a media server. I also want write functionality to it so I can rip my movies directly to the drive over the network without having to disconnect it from the router. I see that ushare can do what I am hoping to accomplish but it's requiring some sort of optware package? HUH? Like I said i'm a noob with custom router firmware. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to set this up? I don't know whether or not these files need to be listed on the external hard drive or the router itself. Please if there is a howto guide for this please send me the link. BTW my harddrive is formatted as NTFS and is USB 2.0
[Read more]
