wireless security open

I installed Tomato v1.11 on my router and setup wpa2 personal security and was able to connect to it with my workstation using the psk. A week later I am able to connect to it with another workstation with no key; the network shows up as open with security not enabled. I disabled/enabled security, rebooted the router, still open. DD-WRT looks like it may offer better access control rules so I'll unload Tomato. It appears this version is older than what is offered on the tomato site. Can their latest versions be installed on this router or has the one available for download here been modified to work?

tomato not installing

I'm attempting to install tomato_wgr614l.chk on a new WGR614L. Current hardware and firmware are: Account Name WGR614v8 Hardware Version V8 Firmware Version V1.1.2_1.0.23NA I've read the other posts regarding installing/upgrading. I've tried tftp but it doesn't respond, and the green power LED never blinks on power up. My workstation running Windows is connected to the router via another switch per the article on problems with Windows interfaces taking longer than 3 seconds to enable, but I don't think tftp is ever active on the router. I've tried connecting with ssh using Putty with user root@192.168.1.1 and admin@192.168.1.1, response: Network error: Connection refused. Searches in the forum indicate turning on SSH in the firmware but it must mean in dd-wrt or tomato already installed since I don't see this option in the netgear firmware. What am I missing?

Tomato not upgrading

I have a Netgear WGR614 v8 and I was able to load Tomato 1.11.0018 on it. All in all, it works but has some quirks. As such I've tried upgrading to the latest available verision without success. For starters, the web upgrade starts with this complaint when I try to upload "tomato-wgr614l-1.11.41512-lzma.chk": Expecting a ".bin" or ".trx" file If I rename the file to .bin prior to upload, it accepts it but fails with: File contains an invalid header Please wait while the router reboots... The same happens for the latest Netgear firmware "wgr614v8_1_1_11_6_0_36_na.chk". What am I doing wrong? How do I upgrade Tomato or revert to the Netgear firmware?

how to get same wireless strength in the basement

Hello, On the second floor of my house, front side of the house I have a Linksys WRT54GL connected to Time Warner cable. The Linksys ws upgraded to the Tomato 1.19 firmware and I took of the original 2db antennas and replaced them with 9 dbi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Brooks antennas facing downward. I set the transmission strength to 69 in as much as MaximumPc stated the highest one should go is 70 or it will heat up the components. When I am upstairs, my download speed is around 6-700 Kb/sec. I would like to get the signal down to my basement because my basement is air conditioned and upstairs isnt. I have experimented with my laptop http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laptop wireless built in adapter and it picks up a signal of 36 mbps according to Netstumbler and the speed varies between 138 kb/sec to 220 kb/sec. If I disable the Atheros wireless adapter in my laptop and connect the Wi-Fire I get 188-192 KB/sec and the range is very tight as you can see. I have to play around with positioning but that seems to be what I get. They state that I am getting 36-48 mbits/sec speed. I disconnected my wiFire unit. I once...

For all of you using the Tomato firmware... I'm excited for the WGR614L that NETGEAR is releasing soon. It's a Broadcom based router, so it will work with Tomato. So far, I've used DD-WRT, so it will be nice to try out the other options in detail. Anyone out there using Tomato? How do you like it?
