I am working on freeradius server. I want to use Netgear WNR3500L as a access point. According to my academic project i need to do some changes in access point kernel. Changes like at radius and eap protocol. So i choose kamikaze and port in access point. Its working fine. But now my question is.. Is there any other firmware like backfire, is compatible with Netgear WNR3500L? If not that tell me about kamikaze. I searched and found this access point is not much open source. What it means.

OpenWRT 1.0 BETA for WNDR3800--Security/Firewall/Port Forwarding?

I recently installed the WNDR3800 OpenWRT beta on my router, and I'm happy to report it seems to be working well. Throughput is nice and strong so far, with no drops and good wireless signal. I know it's an early build, and as such there aren't many features to mess with. I am wondering, though--what kind of security/firewall, if any, is built in to this firmware? Also, does it have uPnP, or would I have to set up all port forwards manually?

Setting Default Configuration

I am creating a custom build of OpenWRT and one of the things I'd like to do is automatically set some defaults configuration items. The reason for this is that I'll be flashing a bunch of routers (several 100) and I don't want to have to configure each one individually. In particular, I would like to: 1. Disable telnetd, enable sshd. 2. Set a root/admin password (not sure if setting this password will accomplish #1) 3. Enable wireless with a preset SSID, encryption and passwd. I tried creating a /etc/config/wireless file in the firmware but it seems to get overwritten by /etc/init.d/network. Any pointers on how to accomplish this? In Tomato, there was a defaults.c file with the nvram code where I could pretty much do everything in one place, but I'm not what the equivilent is in OpenWrt. Thanks --raju
[Read more]

Network configuration - OpenWRT - WNR3500L

Hi, I've cross compiled the OpenWRT 8.09.2 (Kamikaze) for WNR3500L. The source code was downloaded from this website. Unfortunately, I cannot set up the network. "Out of the box" settings are not working. I can ping the router (192.168.1.1) from my laptop. On the router site, the 192.168.1.1 address is assigned only to the br-lan bridged interface. OpenWRT guys have told me that I shall setup network interfaces as: eth1 - WiFi (wl-compat module is needed to provide wext for Broadcom WiFi interface) eth0.0 - 4 LAN interfaces (here also some bridge interface shall be defined) eth0.1 - WAN interface (to connect DSL modem) I've set up those interfaces, but with no success. I'd like to be able to have the basic setup: DSL modem (WAN port - the yellow one) -> WNR3500L (OpenWRT) (LAN port) -> Linux laptop. The goal is to have access from my Laptop to the Internet provider's web based administration portal (to change mac address to the router's one). Can anyone share with me the /etc/configs/network file (or any other needed files) for this setup? I also suppose, that proper NAT between eth0.0 and eth0.1 shall be set up. Have anyone had a similar problem...

Any suggestions, what I can do to get my router back to life???
Hi, I am using openwrt backfire version on the Atheros based linksys WRT160NL. For accessing NVRAM on the board, i am using the "nvram" utility configured during "make menuconfig". The "nvram" utility does allow to view all the variables on NVRAM. But it doesn't seem to set new values/variables to NVRAM since "nvram commit" command fails with the below error: mtdblock: erase of region [0x0, 0x10000] on "nvram" failed. I would be grateful if anyone could suggest a means to set new name/values in the NVRAM. root@OpenWrt:/tmp# nvram set UNITID=7 root@OpenWrt:/tmp# nvram get UNITID 7 root@OpenWrt:/tmp# nvram commit root@OpenWrt:/tmp# nvram get UNITID No output
[Read more]

hello i have a openwrt installed on WNR3500L, and i have mounted an external usb drive on it. when trying to read from the disk, i randomly get segmentation fault, and kernel oops. it does not matter which program access the drive. same behaviuor when reading a file with scp, rsync, dd, cat and even with unfs3 nfs server. i looked at the openwrt forums, and they said that it is a driver bug which was solved when the change was made from white russian to kamikazee. however i am running kamikaze 8.09.2 (kernel 2.4.35.4) below is the kernel log. thanks, erez.
booting from external disk

hello i have just bought an NG 3500L, to replace my old wrt54gl i have successfully installed openwrt on my 3500L. however it has a small root partition so i want to mount the root on an external drive (like i did with th wrt54gl - after i soldered an SD to it). i tried the instructions in https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=24138 however it requires a package called block-extroot, which opkg can't seem to find i tried to edit both /etc/preinit and /etc/preinit.arch, and add some lines using pivot_root to mount the usbdrive as /, however the lines doesn't seem to be executed. i know i have the option of adding those lines to /etc/rc.d/whatever, however this will be done after /proc and all other is mounted (which means i have to remount them on the new '/') and after /etc/rc.d is already scanned (so files i add on the new /etc/rc.d will not be executed) any help would be appreciated. thanks, erez.
