Troubleshooting bridging issues

Hello All, I'm trying to troubleshoot an intermittent issue and I'm not sure where to look to find out more information. So basically I have setup 2 networks. 1 guest and 1 private. The guest network is bridged to VLAN5 and the Private Wireless network is bridged to Vlan 1 Intermittently the Private wireless network will loose all connection to everything but the router interface. For example I can't reach any computers or internet on VLAN 1 but I can still get to router setup page. Also a computer that is plugged directly into a port on the router that is on VLAN1 does not lose access to VLAN1 but CANNOT access any of the wireless clients. So basically it looks like somehow the bridging of the wireless to VLAN 1 fails every so often. It usually resolves it self after about 1/2 an hour or a restart will help most the time.. I'm using latest version of DD-WRT Kong (Although it happend with previous versious as well) Any advice where to start diagnosing this issue? Thanks MAtt
[Read more]

"Boot Program checksum is invalid" Cannot Boot

I just got a WNR3500L. I attempted to install the "install this firmware first" version of DD-WRT. I think I may have not let it sit long enough for the upgrade to succeed. I have been able to get both TFTP and USB serial console access working. Watching the console output when the router boots, its throwing a " Boot Program checksum is invalid" and then starting up TFTPd. When I send firmware via TFPD, my console outut says the file was received, followed by "Programming..." but then no additional output occurs. I suspect I'll need to run some additional commands via serial console, but I'm not sure precisely what to do. Ultimately I'm wanting to run Tomato USB on this device, but at the moment I'm not picky, just getting it to boot successfully is my first priority.

I got a router to router VPN working with my two Netgear 3500L's It works great and I can ping everything from both networks. Now I have a question about the actual capability of the 3500L's as far as how many connections and/or VPN tunnels they can reasonably handle. How many VPN client routers can I cannect to one 3500L running Tomato VPN server? Of course the netgear site does not say anything about this since the native 3500L setup does not support VPN.
Hi, after flashing this image " dd-wrt.v24-14896_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn.bin " (downloaded from www.dd-wrt.com) the router doesnt boot anymore. The current status is: The yellow powed LED is on (steady). I get ping response of the router for about 15 seconds a moment after I switch it on. Sadly I'm not able to flash the original firmware with a tftp client. Any suggestions? Is my device bricked?

Ok here's the deal, I have IPv6 setup on my 3500L router running tomato. After screwing around with DD-WRT and getting problems from end ot the other I decided to try Tomato with it's nice GUI interface to IPv6. So now I have IPv6 setup on the router and it's working great from the router. I can ping IPv6 addresses and everything. My clients seem to be getting IPv6 addresses assigned, but I can't use IPv6 sites. ipv6-test.com says: Your IPv4 address on the public Internet appears to be *.*.*.* No IPv6 address detected [more info] When a publisher offers both IPv4 and IPv6, your browser appears to be happy to take the IPv4 site without delay. Connections to IPv6-only sites are timing out. Any web site that is IPv6 only, will appear to be down to you. Your DNS server (possibly run by your ISP) appears to have IPv6 Internet access. Now my ISP does not support IPv6 yet so the DNS is coming from the routers setup. Why can't my clients connect? I read something about IPv6 port forwarding, but I have no idea what to forward. I tried a wild card forward (* in the address lines)...

Hey Kong, I've been using your firmware for a long time and I love it. You have all the requirements it seems for IPv6 already installed. I'm using a Hurricane Electric (TunnelBroker.net) 4to6 tunnel and all of the tutorials to get this working seem to have issues. I had IPv6 working perfectly at one point, but for some reason it killed my wireless on the router. What do you suggest for getting IPv6 working? Since it's your firmware I figured I should ask the master.

Hi! I'm looking for the best WNR3500L firmware for my AT&T U-verse FTTP setup with a Static IP package. (To avoid any misunderstandings, please note that I don't have any DSL, or PPPoE, or anything of the sort.) On WAN, I must be getting a single 76.220.xx.xx/22 through DHCP. I also rent my own 99.124.xxx.xxx/27 that is routed to my /22 (per my understanding, I'm not a networking guy, really). So, anyhow, on my LAN, I wanna use the straight 99.124.xxx.xxx/27 without any NAT (obviously), but having NAT options and being able to use the RFC1918 addresses alongside my 99.124.xxx.xxx/27 would be nice. Options of which public address any private addresses are mapped to would likewise be welcome, but rather optional. If anyone's interested in a long rant about my network with all the glory details, see ">http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r26754312-Any-consumer-routers-that-can-do-ro... A local SIP registration server would be nice, authoritative DNS and SNMP would be nice, and also HE.net's IPv6 TunnelBroker.net support is a must. Must have full TunnelBroker.net IPv6 support!
Static IP setup with two public subnets (one dynamic, one static)

If anyone's interested in a long rant about my network with all the glory details, see http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r26754312-Any-consumer-routers-that-can-do-ro... A local SIP registration server would be nice, authoritative DNS and SNMP would be nice, and also HE.net's IPv6 TunnelBroker.net support is a must. Must have full TunnelBroker.net IPv6 support! HE.net is only 2ms further away from me than any other fastest internet node! Any suggestions of which firmware I should try that gives the most flexibility out of the box, e.g....

Going from Tomato to DD-WRT

Preface: I did search, I apologize if this has been covered before. I've got Tomato Router on my Netgear 3500L? router, and I'd like to go back to OEM firmware, so I can install DD-WRT. When attempting to upgrade the firmware with the netgear supplied file, I get a message that says something to the effect of "there isn't enough space to install firmware" (I'll have to attempt it again to get the exact message, i'm at work right now) Would someone be kind enough to assist in this matter? Thank you!

Power LED Amber, strange wireless behavior...

I've got two WNR3500L routers setup in my home. The main router is attached to the modem and a 1000Mb switch that connects my office equipment (file server, test systems etc..). The second router is connected to the first router via a stretch of CAT5 through the attic. The two routers have identical wireless setup on seperate channels (main on channel 1, second on channel 11). This allows me to roam freely through the house without a dropout. The second router is also set to pass all DHCP requests to the main router. Recently I setup my main router to support my IPV6 tunnel through Tunnel brokers. It works great, every machine in the house now has IPV6 automatically. Strangely though after setting up the tunnel my power LED has gone Amber and all my wireless clients only connect to the second router. The wireless is working according to the router. It sees other routers in the area, but it never shows a connected client. I'm running Kong's firmware which has always ran perfectly for me. Any ideas on what happened here?
