My router has always worked fine. Its currently running tomato 1.28.0000 MIPSR2-105 K26 USB BT-VPN. I am connected via LAN. Lately, when I game, especially on dota 2, my connection will timeout for a few seconds. I usually move over to my second monitor and try my hardest to load a website until i notice it is back up. Sometimes its 3 seconds, sometimes its 10 or so. Just long enough to get me killed or drop me out of the game. Started playing neverwinter recently and its doing the same thing. I plugged straight into my modem and had no problems.. I also had laptop next to me running continuous ping on google. When the desktop went down, the laptop went down, so I know its the router. Any ideas?

Help! Kong Mini DLNA driving me crazy :-(

Greetings. I'm not a Linux person so forgive me. I've been trying to get this to work for 3 days on my Belkin F7D3302/7302. Firmware loads fine, 30/30/30 reset before and after. I have my Panasonic TV connected to the router via LAN cable and it is connected to to my home network in wireless repeater bridge mode. All good here, good throughput etc. At first the TV could see the files on the disc, but the disc wasn't visible to the network. Then I got Samba to work and I could access and read and write to the disc, but the TV could no longer see the files on the disc. Then for 5 "fleeting" minutes last night it all worked properly - now the TV has gone back to not seeing any files. I started using the latest Kong firmware 21395 but I discovered Samba doesn't seem to be working in this version. So I swtiched to 19545 where Samba is working. Disc is FAT32. Video files are in the root of the disc, not a folder. Under USB section of the GUI I have enabled everything except printer support, but none of the fields have been filled...

Bricked WNR3500L - Only Orange light (and lan)

Hi, I have a WNR3500L v1 that I tried to flash the latest OpenWRT onto (without looking if it's compatible). The router was promptly bricked. When I turn it on, the orange light turns on, all the LEDs turn on (blue and green) about 4 secs later, and then just the Orange power light staying on, and a green lan light for whatever is connected. I have tried TFTPing numerous times in the TFTP window (of about 2 seconds), but it never accepted the request. Later on, I tried the pin short method about a dozen times, but to no success, as it never accept the TFTP transfer either. I purchased USB TTL adapter (this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-FT232RL-USB-To-Serial-Adapter-Module-USB-TO-232-Fo... and soldered the 3.3v connection after cutting the 5v trace. Pin 2 (of the router) is connected to the RX pin, and Pin 5 is connected to the TX pin, and Pin 6 is connected to the GND pin of my usb adapter. Installing the drivers and setting PuTTY to COM3 at 115200 bits with no flow control always leaves me a blank window with no router output. The way how it's set is I have the router off, with the serial pins connected...

How to fix site blocked by router?

There's a url (www.napo2013.net or 76.12.13.53) which times out when using the WNR3500L router hardwired to my desktop. No other connectivity problems have been observed. Checked with both the site administrator and Time Warner who of course, say all's peachy keen. Then circumvented the router and got to the URL. Very strange. Is there a way to clear cache on the router, or some other approach to fix this? Other URLs to this server appear to work fine. All suggestions are most welcome!
Hello, i have been researching about this router for some days now, the only thing that is holding me back from purchase it is that my home network is fast ethernet. Will this router perform better or worst than my actual D-Link DIR-600 router? I want to use this router to serve as a NAS, VPN, FTP server? and use it with my Voip ATA (interested in QoS options) and the normal tasks that a basic router does.

Hello, I've been using dd-wrt for almost a year now but am wondering how to use my dyndns hostname on lan computers? I'm running a web server and would like to be able to access it by using my dyndns hostname rather than the lan IP of my server. My old router did this automatically. I've read something about enabling loopback, not sure whether or not that's what I should be looking for...
NooB questions

Hi all, I just bought a Netgear router advertised as a "WNR 3500l v1 Open Source with pre-installed DD-WRT". It's up and running with all my wireless devices (2 Android cellphones, an iPod Touch and a tf101 tablet) and wired devices (Raspberry Pi and Home PC) connecting perfectly. NooB question #1: From the DD-WRT control panel my router is indicated as s "Netgear WNR3500v2/U/L". I checked the FCC id number on the back of the router (FCC id PY308400093) and from what I've read that means I have a v1....no? NooB question #2: Also from the control panel, my firmware is "DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/16/11) vpnkong". Since everything seems to be working fine, would it be worth it to update this firmware? And to which firmware seeing as how I'm not 100% sure which version I have. Thanks for your time,
[Read more]

Hi again guys, where can I find the required knowledge base to customize the standard firmware? I read the only article present on this site belonging this and I downloaded the code and toolchain too, but I need to study something before to approach the mod. I'm not a newbie of the I.T. world because I'm an active software developer but without any kind of experience about modding firmwares for routers. This would be a training to improve my knowledge, so any resource is really appreciated: forums, ebooks, articles, required prerequisites and so on.. Moreover, I'd like to know if a virtual environment exists to test the new firmware before flashing it..

WRN3500Lv1: doubts about alternative firmwares

Hi to all, guys! This is my first time here and i've a doubt about custom firmwares. I read the description of the features of some alternative firmwares (in example Tomato by Shibby) and I like some of those features, but I see that some of the default features are not listed. Should I consider them implicitally included? In example, I'm currently using (with standard firmware) the guest second wi-fi, but I don't see it as standard feature os the alternative firmwares. My second question, so is: are the alternative firmwares based on the standard firmware, I mean, they include at least all the features included in the standard one? thanks in advance!

Problems with using WNR3500l as repeater bridge

Hello guys, I need your help with the following. I am using the router WNR3500L as a repeater bridge for my WIFI network. The primary router is a Sagem SKY router (I am living in the UK).... it's a quite shitty device but not much I can do about that ;-) I used this tutorial: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Repeater_Bridge#Instructions to set up my WNR3500L as the repeater bridge. I applied all the necessary settings, i.e. the device is in bridge mode, I use the same encription mode and password for both devices, deativated the firewall etc. - and it worked fine like that in the beginning! However, after using it a bit more (i.e. transferring more data), my wifi network created by the bridge keeps dissappearing/the router freezes and I can only switch it off manually and reconnect. Sometimes it just kicks me out of the wifi and the router seems to restart the wifi unit. I have no idea why the router keeps crashing, I used DD-WRT before and it has always been super stable. I am using this firmware at the moment: Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (01/25/13) vpnkon Does anyone have a clue what the cause of the problem could be? Interestingly...

Seeing as my router has 64 mb ram i assume this means my router but now i dont know which version to get? I noticed kingKong mod but its ofr 16mb flash mine is 8.
I'm on Shibby's mod, Big-VPN build 105. I've tried BT-gui also. All the same issues. The issue being, the Transmission Gui does not work. I can't access it externally, and I cannot access it internally. I've tried going from Toastman to Shibby, no gui. I've tried stock firmware to ddwrt prep to shibby, no gui. I've tried ddwrt prep to shibby, no gui. Nothing I do seems to work. Should I just try uninstalling Transmission, then reinstall it? Or does anyone else have any other ideas?

Multiple public / wan ip port forwarding HELL!!!

I've scoured the internet high and low trying to get this to work properly. So far, nothing has worked. I've used 2 different routers, a Netgear WNR3500L v1, and a Netgear WNDR4500, both flashed with the latest available firmwares as of 02/02/2013. I've even tried Tomato on the WNR3500L. Port forwarding by itself on a single pubilc IP does work, as long as I'm using the GUI, and not iptables commands. So here's what I've tried so far. This computer DOES have a service listening on port 80. When I visit canyouseeme.org, it successfully sees port 80 open when I forward port 80 with the web gui. Port forwarding using the method below kills my internet on the machine that I'm forwarding the port to. It's the "POSTROUTING" command that kills the internet. When I delete or comment out that line, it starts working again. Netgear WNR3500L v1 with DD WRT ( Release date 01/28/2013 ) (Save Startup) (I've added ***.*** to mask my real wan IP. I didn't actually use ***.*** in the script!!) /usr/sbin/ip addr add 24.176.***.*** /29 dev vlan1 /usr/sbin/iptables -t nat -I POSTROUTING 1 -p all -s 192.168.100.10 -j SNAT --to 24.176.***.*** (Save Firewall) /usr/sbin/iptables -t...

I perchased a WRN3500L router to be able to use a usb printer from any computer in my house with out having to have one computer on as printer host. I am unable to do this even with following the steps provided in the Genie. I run in to this modle is not supported for print server funtion. Not a Worning it's just not on any of the lists. I know that most of the new printers these days are wifi but I can not afford them yet. Any aid in this endever would be greatly apprecieated.

Netgear firmware have better wifi signal/throughput than DD-WRT??

I’ve been running Kong’s DD-WRT firmware on my 3500L and has been very happy with its performance, except wireless. While the router has been rock solid, reboot not necessary even after a few month of heavy use, the wireless signal in certain part of my house has been weak and slow. I recently got another 3500L and wanted to use it to provide better wireless signal in the trouble part of the house. But first I thought I’d compare the wireless performance of the netgear firmware vs dd-wrt to make sure I am getting the same signal level/throughput. I was pretty shocked by the difference. With the netgear firmware, I have very decent wireless signal throughout the house! I can watch Netflix on the ipad in locations where I couldn’t with the dd-wrt signal. Swapping the two routers back and forth, my results are confirmed. In speedtest on a laptop, netgear gave me 10mbps+, while dd-wrt gave me 1-5 barely. In DD-WRT, the TX power is set to Kong’s default 40. Bumping this to 70 does not provide a visible throughput boost, it more or less remains the same! So my question is, has anyone else noticed a weaker wifi...

Is it possible to create this setup

I access the internet through a netgear wireless router connected to an adsl modem. I also have a technicolor 546v6 wired router connected to a separate phone line used as a vpn network, currently this router is connected to my nic and I used route ADD to route 10.2.2.0 ip to this router. Ive made a network diagram in the best of my ability (please don't laugh) of the network configuration I'm interested in. I want to disconnect the technicolor router from my pc and connect it to the netgear wireless router and somehow route the 10.2.2.0 ip to the technicolor router. From my limited understanding this can be done using the static route feature in the netgear configuration. I would really appreciate if someone could tell me how to properly connect the technicolor route rto the netgear wireless router, what cable should I use (regular/crossover) and what configurations have to be made in the router settings. Here are the links to the routers specs: [url] http://www.technicolor.com/en/hi/digital-home/mediaaccess/dsl/wired/technicol... br />[url] http://www.netgear.com/home/products/wirelessrouters/work-and-play/wnr3500l.a... br /> and here's the link to the same question poste din another forum: [url] http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f31/ip-vpn-behind-a-wireless-router-68... br /> Thanks,
[Read more]

video streaming from WNR3500L to WD media player

Hi guys, looking for some advices... I'm about to replace my old Zyxel P-600 router which works fine for our family but there's no WiFi. After some investigation I found the Netgear WNR3500L which open source architecture and features look great, yet it would be helpful if someone could clarify the following. 1) Besides of using attached USB disk as network share (should work fine I guess) we'd like to stream our HD video/movie collection (from an external USB drive attached directly to WNR3500L) via WD TV Media Streaming player - newer version http://wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=330 As we have ethernet socket near TV and WDTV center, I'm only interested in streaming performance via network cable. I'm curious whether this works with WNR3500L as the comparison chart http://www.netgear.com/images/Router%20Chart%209_1118-44305.pdf shows DLNA media streaming is not supported. Hopefully this is DLNA related only and WDTV media streaming (even 1080p HD) will be possible. Is my assumption correct and has anybody tried this combo already ? 2) I've read WNR3500L features something like a smart prioritizing of task such as video streaming - does that mean e.g. full hd stream (from USB disk attached to the router) will not get interrupted when copying big amount of...
