Troubleshooting bridging issues

Hello All, I'm trying to troubleshoot an intermittent issue and I'm not sure where to look to find out more information. So basically I have setup 2 networks. 1 guest and 1 private. The guest network is bridged to VLAN5 and the Private Wireless network is bridged to Vlan 1 Intermittently the Private wireless network will loose all connection to everything but the router interface. For example I can't reach any computers or internet on VLAN 1 but I can still get to router setup page. Also a computer that is plugged directly into a port on the router that is on VLAN1 does not lose access to VLAN1 but CANNOT access any of the wireless clients. So basically it looks like somehow the bridging of the wireless to VLAN 1 fails every so often. It usually resolves it self after about 1/2 an hour or a restart will help most the time.. I'm using latest version of DD-WRT Kong (Although it happend with previous versious as well) Any advice where to start diagnosing this issue? Thanks MAtt
[Read more]

"Boot Program checksum is invalid" Cannot Boot

I just got a WNR3500L. I attempted to install the "install this firmware first" version of DD-WRT. I think I may have not let it sit long enough for the upgrade to succeed. I have been able to get both TFTP and USB serial console access working. Watching the console output when the router boots, its throwing a " Boot Program checksum is invalid" and then starting up TFTPd. When I send firmware via TFPD, my console outut says the file was received, followed by "Programming..." but then no additional output occurs. I suspect I'll need to run some additional commands via serial console, but I'm not sure precisely what to do. Ultimately I'm wanting to run Tomato USB on this device, but at the moment I'm not picky, just getting it to boot successfully is my first priority.

Hi, after flashing this image " dd-wrt.v24-14896_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn.bin " (downloaded from www.dd-wrt.com) the router doesnt boot anymore. The current status is: The yellow powed LED is on (steady). I get ping response of the router for about 15 seconds a moment after I switch it on. Sadly I'm not able to flash the original firmware with a tftp client. Any suggestions? Is my device bricked? I have a 10 port powered usb hub connected to the router, i connect 4 mobiles to charge over night and normally they are fully charged the next morning. With the latest firmware it only charges about 50% of the battery life on all mobiles.

Preface: I did search, I apologize if this has been covered before. I've got Tomato Router on my Netgear 3500L? router, and I'd like to go back to OEM firmware, so I can install DD-WRT. When attempting to upgrade the firmware with the netgear supplied file, I get a message that says something to the effect of "there isn't enough space to install firmware" (I'll have to attempt it again to get the exact message, i'm at work right now) Would someone be kind enough to assist in this matter? Thank you!

Power LED Amber, strange wireless behavior...

I've got two WNR3500L routers setup in my home. The main router is attached to the modem and a 1000Mb switch that connects my office equipment (file server, test systems etc..). The second router is connected to the first router via a stretch of CAT5 through the attic. The two routers have identical wireless setup on seperate channels (main on channel 1, second on channel 11). This allows me to roam freely through the house without a dropout. The second router is also set to pass all DHCP requests to the main router. Recently I setup my main router to support my IPV6 tunnel through Tunnel brokers. It works great, every machine in the house now has IPV6 automatically. Strangely though after setting up the tunnel my power LED has gone Amber and all my wireless clients only connect to the second router. The wireless is working according to the router. It sees other routers in the area, but it never shows a connected client. I'm running Kong's firmware which has always ran perfectly for me. Any ideas on what happened here?

Hello, this is my fisrts post here, I already own a WNR3500L V1 running TomatoUSB 1.28 for a while now and having some low signal on my 2nd floor (Router in basement) I purchased another identical Wnr3500L V1 to use it as a wifi repeater. Stock firmware worked perfectly. Now what I started doing was a 30/30/30 reset then flashed the DD-WRT initial CHK file, all ok. Then I flashed the same version TomatoUSB 1.28 than my router #1. Everything worked perfect, but I read that DD-WRT supported Wireless Client mode better than Tomato (I did not want to use WDS) So I wanted to revert to DD-WRT. 30/30/30 reset again and I dowloaded (what I tought was...) the latest firmware from Netgear. I proceeded to flash the Netgear Firmware 1.0.0.30 and all went perfect again. Except When I reset and reboot I see the menus and GUI are different and some tab titles are missing (The tabs work, but you see what they are once you are inside them) It is then I understand I flashed a V2 firmware onto a V1 router (the firmware for the v1 in North America was really 1.22.44) I am surprised , aside...

The instructions for firmware upgrade are totally invalid on my router. It says to login to the admin panel and go to Maintenance > Router Upgrade but that option quite simply does NOT exist on my router. I called support and they *really* screwed me. A first level tech told me to turn the power on and off and then to clear the settings to factory default. That of course did not work and didn't change anything. When I called back to try to finish the call and figure out how to get back online they refused to finish supporting me until I PAID them. What a scam. They tell me to clear my settings and then say I have to pay to get the rest of the support. Unbelievable. Anyway is my router defective? Is there another way to upgrade the firmware? What do I do. I believe my router is a WNR3500Lv1 Here's a screen shot showing the missing update option. http://gyazo.com/92eaa13ef4b4e4c50bed13db6a3c3680 I tried different computers and different browsers too...
I have one wnr3500l with the latest dd-wrt from kong . When i uppgraded my internet speed from 100/10 to 250 I noticed that i didnt get the speed i should have, maximum speed 115mbit/s and that wasnt ok. I have one wrt320n as well and tryed dd-wrt on that one and there i had the same problem. Tryed tomato on both the routers, still the same problem, max 120mbit/s. When i shut downd dhcp server and uses lanport as switch instead (internet-->lan1 lan2---cpu) i maxed out the line and had no speed problem (both routers, both firmare) Last thing to do is to try original firmare, i do so on wrt 320n and cashing 235mbit/s down and 105 up and its the fw thats the problem, who could have guesed that? I guess the problem are the wan-port dont support over 100mbit with dd-wrt or tomato and i wonder, are there any lines in the config i need to change? Hope you all understand.

I have the prior build of DD-WRT (this happened on all builds) on the 3500L router. The Xbox is connected via CAT6 (100Mb) to the router and the PC (Windows 7 Pro) via CAT6 (1Gb) to the router. File transfers are very fast on my home network, however when I try to run a photo slideshow on my Xbox from my PC (settings are set on the PC to allow this), the folder traversing is fast however some of the photos takes awhile to load. The file sizes vary from 10-15MB each. This should not be a problem. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hello All, I just started using DD-WRT on my Netgear WNR3500L and the interface is a little confusing so it is entirely possible I have a setting wrong. I was hoping to use them to provide an Internal wireless along side a guest network with VLAN Trunking. So the internal network is VLAN 1 and the external is VLAN5 The problem comes in that the wireless performance is horrendous in this setup. Sometimes it will not get Ip address. The signal is weak , the speeds are bad. I did find out that CTS was turned on for some reason. Turning this off at least made it so that the connection speed would go above 5mbps . Now the max I have seen is 65mpbs. One of the main problems seems to be something with the bridging: I can always connect to the router gui when connected via wireless even if traffic does not seem to be getting any further. So I'm thinking part of the unreliableness is something to do with how I have my bridging setup. So I'm looking for help with that as there are a few settings I don't understand(Such as under VLAN tab there is...

Hi, Got my NAS and dlna working. but this morning the HDD (Seagate Expansion Desktop Drive 1TB) had spun down/powered off. This usually happens when connected to my PC and sure enough when i accessed it via network/WNR3500L/Router in Win 7 it spun up loudly. The problem is that the files don't show up on the NAS folder, even though the dlna works just fine. Rebooting the router will fix the problem but i was hoping that someone had a better solution. There seems to be a number of different solutions but so far I've can't get any of them to work (most likely because i'm not that good at dealing with linux commands) Kong mentions that he has included somthing called sd-idle but i can't find any guides that shows how it is used or what it does (prevents spindown, allows spindown?) http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/23842/DD-WRT-Kong-Mod-Info/ The second option i found was on the dd-wrt wiki http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/USB_storage#Prevent_Harddisk_Spindown . I'm not sure what parts of the script i should use except for ignoring the subo parts. When i input "apt-get install sdparm; sdparm -a /dev/sdg;" (g is the windows lable of the drive) into administration/commands section of the dd-wrt control panel i get...

Neither Pc nor samsung Tv can find the files but the dlna server is visible

Hi managed to flash the KongMod and got the NAS working via Samba and a tmp/mnt/ mount. So the drive (ntfs btw) is visible on my networkplaces and also shows up on the dlna devices. However neither my pc nor my smarttv can find any files on the drive. Dlna is pointing at /tmp/mnt/Film With a DB path at /tmp/mnt with a update interval of 240. My Samba path is /tmp/mnt/disc0-part1 and I have no problem moving files to and from the NAS. The files are simple .avi which work well when connected straight to the tv and pc. Tried powering off/on during 10 sec without any progress. I have several folders inside the /tmp/mnt/Film with some tv-series, could this folder structure mess up the dlna or is something else messing the the dlna?

Netgear 3500L Tomato Flash Disaster?

I read up, I studied up, I knew everything to do, and now not once but twice I've had the same issue with getting this damned tomato firware to work. I started with a brand new 3500L Prepped it with a 30/30/30 reset Installed the suggested build of DD-wrt listed on this sites tomato installation guide Went off without a hitch, ddwrt installed fine Did another 30/30/30 reset During my first try I installed Toastman's http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/26575/Toastman-s-Tomato-Firmware-for-WNR3500L-w-USB-Ext/ and the second time, this latest try: http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/32387/Toastman-Tomato-Firmware/ After I recieve a message that it installed successfully and was complete, I then did another 30/30/30 reset. And now it comes to this: I turn on my router and I get an orange power light, after about 60 sec the lights flash once, the power led turns green and the wireless light turns on (blue) and then when I try to login it times out or I'm very rarely able to login to the tomato firmware but after about 5 seconds I lose my connection to the router. I want to love the tomato, but I'm about ready to pull my hair out at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to flash firmware

Hello, I have a wnr3500L router and I have flashed it with openwrt a firt time ( chillifire version) I made this installation with tftp and several specific linux commands. This version is not exactly what I've expected but it works. So I'd like to change it. When I try to put a new firmware into the router, it seems to do something however, after 30 seconds, the router has rebooted and nothing happened. I remember that I have send an "erase linux" command. Is it possible to go back? I can't restore the router to the factory settings with Netgear's CD
[Read more]

USB - How to get it working?

Hi, I have a WNR3500L running Kongs latest build, dd-wrt-usb-ftp-samba3-dlna-O2-v24-K26-broadcom.bin. I've been tinkering with the usb to try to get it to work. To see it from my PC, for starters, and then work my way up to using the DLNA server to stream it to my PS3. So far all I've worked out is that the router recognizes the USB, but I can't see it through my PC. I plugged in and out my drive 3 times, here's the last part of the USB log: Disk 2: --- /dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/disc Block device, size 29.92 GiB (32128368640 bytes) DOS/MBR partition map Partition 1: 29.92 GiB (32124174336 bytes, 62742528 sectors from 8192) Type 0x0C (Win95 FAT32 (LBA)) Windows NTLDR boot loader FAT32 file system (hints score 4 of 5) Volume size 29.90 GiB (32108478464 bytes, 1959746 clusters of 16 KiB) Mountpoints: /dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 mounted to /tmp/mnt/disc2-part1 How do I navigate to it through my PC to see it's files and save files on it?

Router losing/not getting WAN IP

As the title says, the issue I've been having now for the past week or 2 now. I'm currently running Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (09/23/11) stdkong. I've used the latest Kong's Mod, and then Toastman's, and then when neither of those solved my issue, I even reflashed to the Stock Netgear firmware. No luck. The issue seems to present itself at random intervals - it tends to appear to be working fine at first, and then sometime over the next 24 hours it loses the WAN IP (and thus, all internet access). I've got both wired and wireless devices on the network and I've tried various combinations of them in an attempt to cut out variables. Anything hooked up directly to my Cable Modem has no problem getting an IP (other than my router). I've spoken with my ISP twice and they've confirmed that they're not showing any issues on their end. I've tried tinkering with the settings a bit, and then I even tried just leaving everything set to default settings. I was originally restoring my settings after flashing (I tend to work with Static IPs, Portforwarding rules, and DMZ items on my LAN) but gave up on that once...
