OpenWRT (and friends), no WAN DHCP

Hello all, I just created an account, and have been perusing things around here. Nice place you got. :) So I have noticed that with OpenWRT Attitude Adjustment, and its descendents, I cannot get a WAN DHCP lease. That is, the connection between my cable modem and OpenWRT/DD-WRT/CeroWRT/Gargoyle routers will not initiate. This doesn't seem to be an issue with the early Backfire or earlier releases, though I tried a couple of the later Backfires, and they did the same thing. This occurs on both my WNDR3700v1 as well as my WNDR3800. So at the moment I have put an old Linksys/Cisco WRT160Nv3 in between the cable modem and the primary router/LAN DHCP. This is working perfectly fine, and I have even set it up so that the Linksys provides a DHCP lease to the WNDR3*00 routers. So I cannot for the life of me seem to figure out why it can find a DHCP lease from another router, no problem. But when I put up to the cable modem, it craps itself a cries a little. BTW, my cable modem is a (seemingly) new Arris TM722G Telephony DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. It runs on 192.168.100.1, and typically feeds an...

Hi, I am pretty new to this, Switched from the last "regular" dd-wrt to brainslayer's version yesterday and like it a lot the only thing I am missing is rflow support. Is this something that can be added? Some posts seem to suggest yes others no. Any input is welcome thanks Mike
[Read more]

Hi! Sorry for my english.. I've bricked my WNDR3800 and ONLY with a TTL-Usb serial cable, i can put a stable firmware on it. All the nvram variables are blanked!! the ssid, mac, board_id, etc.. etc.. . Only when i changed the nvram variable "hw_board_id", i can tftp a Netgear stock firmware (1.0.0.38).. And it seems to work.. I try to correct the mac addresses with the ones printed on the router's back. But my wireless still does not work. I think some other variables are lost and is needed by wireless interface. There is a way to recover the standard nvram values of WNDR3800? Thanks
[Read more]

I've had this router for about 3 months with no problems until the last 2 weeks. The router works great for approx a day or 2 then I lose both wireless and wired connection. All light's are normal on the router when this occurs. I try to login to the router through a wired connection using the genie and it can not connect. I also try to via web using my ip remote access login. And still nothing. After turning off the router for 10 seconds using the power button the router operates properly. I have removed all power from the modem and router for up to 30 minutes then turned the modem on then the router. So far it still loses internet daily. Any help would be great.

I think I had a bad flash with a new firmware. I connected a serial cable and booted the router. Now, It would not take new firmware because of a corrupted board hardware ID. A previous post in this forum explained how to change the values. Also, I have placed this post as a reply to that thread. I went into the serial console and found all the entries with a value of yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I reset all of the values and got the original firmware back on the router. Now, in the GUI the WPS section is grayed out. I have no wireless. When you check the boxes to turn it on and hit apply, the boxes change back to unchecked. The wifi and the wps button on the front of the router do not work. Does anyone have an idea of what is going on?

EOL?

I heard that the WNDR3800 N600 is going to be EOL soon (within the next few weeks and no direct replacement). Is that true? I don't think it's even 2 years old yet. Have been working on a project that right for a couple months in spare time now that requires it and plan to open it to beta in a few months. It's built on Openwrt, (has some specific config requirements and a few extra packages), so if the rumor is true at least it shouldn't be too hard to move to a different platform, but the RAM requirements are higher than your typical router. Can someone cofirm or deny it's going EOL? If it is going EOL (sad) can someone recommend something similar, preferablly with a expected much longer life cycle? (and at least 128mb of RAM, at least 16mb of Flash, openwrt support, and <$150 street price)

Hi all, I bought the router, spent about 2 weeks and decided to go back to stock fw. Why? Long story short: 1. Open-wrt pretty much has nothing decent to get beginner set up. 2. DD-Wrt has a nice quote "if you dont know your way around, dont use it" and they call themselves open source community and want donations. 3. Tomato, it looked unclear to me where it stands to didnt try it.. All in all, to top this all here is my offer: What I need is 2 subnets. Lets call them in this example, 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1.. They should be able to see each other and go online. What I need is detailed instructions and for that I am willing to pay because apparently nobody will patiently do it but scribble some hightech linux english just to send you off. So, hit the comments if you are interested....

I've been researching this pretty extensively over the past few days, but nothing so far has worked. background: since I can think of, I've been on the wrt-54g linksys routers, and then on the buffalo dd-wrt router. Recently I switched to the Netgear WNDR3800. Issues: At first I was fine out of the box, everything set up all nice and working. Then about a week later I noticed that my 2.4ghz channel had dropped completely. This wasn't the biggest deal, as only my phone used that signal, and everything else I had used the 5g channel. however, being who I am, I couldn't let it go so i tried to fix it. I was currently on the 1.0.0.40 firmware, tried downgrading, 30-30-30 resets, nothing worked. So i load up the DD-WRT brainslayer that I read about. I'm on r18777 right now. Nothing is fixed! The problem's i'm still getting are: 1) No 2.4ghz channel. Even though the router says it's running, my laptop/phone can't see it. Even running in Mixed as opposed to NG, i get nothing. 2) No 40mhz (Turbo) Channel width. I only get Full (20mhz). This is odd, right? As such, I find my wireless surfing really...

So I got the famous ca-42 cable, cracked open the box and fired up. Seems kind of fine, starting with some minor errorcodes and going into upgrade mode. It should be able to reflash if it wasn´t for this: /** Done! Bytes transferred = 4806614 (4957d6 hex) HW ID on board: ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ HW ID on image: 29763654+16+128 Firmware Image HW ID do not match Board HW ID Board HW ID mismatch,it is forbidden to be written to flash!! **/ So my Router thinks its ID is "ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ"! Every single firmware I tried had the same ID = 29763654+16+128 Is there a way to change the routers HW ID? (Yes, I have done the 30-30-30 just prior to flashing)

I just purchased a WNDR3700v3 router for my home. There is a USB port on the back for an external hard drive. I know the WNDR3800 can also do the ReadyShare Printer using the Netgear software. Can I do the same thing on my new router? I have never flashed a router with other stuff and am a little nervous about that. Suggestions? Returing the device....going with WNDR3800.

Clear Channel and Video Network

I want to upgrade my WNDR3800 to OpenWrt Backfire. The current NetGear stock firmware is basically a customized version of OpenWrt Kamikaze, and while I am able to gain telnet access to it, the system is very difficult to extend with new packages/functionality (ssh, apache, etc...). At the same time, I don't want to give up existing good functionality like the Clear Channel and Video Network provided by the NetGear stock firmware. 1. How can I activate/add Clear Channel in OpenWrt Backfire? 2. How to configure a Video Network in OpenWrt Backfire? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best way to tinker with existing WNDR3800 firmware (OpenWrt Kamikaze)

The stock firmware for WNDR3800 is great. I'm missing a few things though: personal web server, ssh server, maybe irssi, etc. I know of a couple of ways to achieve this: 1. The easy way... Flash it with the latest OpenWrt firmware, Backfire, and add whatever I need using the amazing open source platform it provides. However, I don't want to give up good functionality currently provided by the stock firmware, like Clear Channel, and video network optimization for instance. Is there a way to configure it and keep this functionality with the new firmware? 2. The not so easy way... I understand the existing stock firmware is already based on OpenWrt, Kamikaze, customized by NetGear. And that's awesome. That gives me Clear Channel and video network optimization. But what's a good way to tinker with this firmware, without removing it? Somehow adding opkg to it and installing additional packages on usb device? Configuring existing uhttpd to serve an additional root directory on a different port? I've enabled telnetd and explored it a bit, but I was wondering if anyone has had some experience with this. Any advice? Thanks a lot!

Removing dd-wrt

Hi, i'm really new at this and have done a bunch of reading but i havent seen a simple way of reverting back to my factory F/W on the WNDR3800. I can easily switch between .bin builds with dd-wrt but cant reload/reflash the OEM .img build. keep getting "upgrade failed" message. Does netgear provide the .Bin source files (didnt see any) or is there something else im missing? PS i like dd-wrt but cant figure out how to implement MLPPP with Teksavvy.. They only provide support with Tomato.. :( Thanks,
[Read more]
