The ReadyNAS Duo, two-drive Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, was designed to centralize, backup and share digital media across your home network. Historically, the most popular way to store, back up and share home media is with CD/DVDs, external USB hard drives or even the desktops and notebooks themselves. There are downsides to each of these approaches, but overall, they aren’t as versatile. Each requires more time to manage, they depend on a dedicated host computer for operation and they are vulnerable to hardware failure. A network-enabled storage device, like ReadyNAS Duo, has its own Operating System, therefore, it operates independently of the other machines on the network and allows for simultaneous access to data. You don’t need to connect the device directly to your computer, nor do you need to take turns in doing so. For example, you can review the family budget on your laptop at the same time that your children access their schoolwork from the desktop computer in the den.

Easy to Use

The set up and management of ReadyNAS Duo does not require that you be a technophile. The graphical web browser interface walks you through the set up in minutes. It is also capacity expandable, allowing you to start with one disk and add a second later, or you can start with lower capacity drives and increase the size of those drives once you have more data to store. ReadyNAS Duo does the expansion for you, not requiring you to shuffle the data or get involved in reconfiguring the system. ReadyNAS also seamlessly supports both Macintosh and Windows computers, encouraging file sharing in diverse operating system households.

Built-in Protection

A capability included in ReadyNAS Duo, but not available with CDs/DVDs, direct attached USB hard drives and desktops and notebooks is data redundancy (RAID). Data redundancy replicates your data across the multiple drives in the device, making it available even if one of the drives experiences failure. With the other solutions, if hard drive failure occurs due to virus, malware or even user error, your data is lost forever; with ReadyNAS Duo, your data is protected and always available.

Self-Managing Solution

We know how busy life can get and you don’t need one more thing to oversee. ReadyNAS Duo is completely self-managing and monitoring. It includes the ability to set automatic power up and shutdown and has the built-in intelligence needed to monitor its health and the health of the drives. If any type of problem should arise, ReadyNAS Duo will send you a warning message indicating the problem and requesting follow-up actions. ReadyNAS also performs periodic checks of your data to ensure its integrity and has an auto-shutdown feature, safely shutting down during a power failure. Additionally, because Not all data is meant to be shared, ReadyNAS Duo offers password protection so that you can restrict access where needed. Media Streaming

Along with all of its practical features, ReadyNAS Duo is made for fun.
