Hi,
I have compiled the DD-WRT source but not courageous enough to burn the image to flash. Is it possible to run the image from RAM. Actually I would like to run DD-WRT image in the WGR614v8. Can anybody please come up with some ideas.
Thanks,

Noticed this thread on DD-WRT forum. Wanted to bring in the discussion here.

DD-WRT supports the bcm5354 based routers, but not sure if it already supports the netgear WGR614L open source router. Can anyone through some ideas here?
WGR614L has community around it at http://www.myopenrouter.com and you may be able to get some answers on this there too.
Here is what I can find out about WGR614L at here.
"A new router platform WGR614L is coming soon and what got me excited is that this new platform is well suited for many excellent community developed firmwares like like OpenWRT, Sveasoft, DD-WRT, Tomato. This Broadcom 5354 SoC based router has 4MB flash and 16MB SDRAM - good enough to run most of these popular firmwares. In fact most of the firmwares that runs on Linksys WRT54GL should be easily (relatively speaking) portable to WGR614L."
DD-WRT supports the bcm5354 chipsets - but not sure if the firmware can be run on this rotuer unmodified.
The also have a alpha version of Tomato firmware available here.

The Code I have compiled is downloaded from

I have gone through the DD-WRT forum as well. There I have been referenced to a Netgear 614L compatible DD-WRT version. I download this image but got a panic. It shows 'Unable to mount rootfs' and gets rebooted. Can anybody give some idea - what would be the probable cause. However I will also modify the source to run in the Netgear platform. Now it sounds good that the third party vendors also trying to make their code compatible to Netgear.:)
Great that you could compile the code.
you could try to use the boot_wait=on nvram settings in the WGR614L to boot from a tftp server. In this case you should use the embedded ramdisk option in the kernel to make sure you do not have to burn the rootfs into the mtd.
The failure to mount rootfs is the problem I have also got. Let me know if you make further progress on this.
Anyone tried the later updated versions shown in the above thread? Before I start playing it would be nice to hear others results.

This should help a little...

svn co svn://svn.dd-wrt.com/DD-WRTIt looks like your link to the svn download is broken. You can either re-edit your post or post it again. I would love to check out the source.

Hi. I think that the best thing is to provide patches and/or other support directly to the actual development team of dd-wrt (BrainSlayer, eko and others) and link the download page to the official download section of the dd-wrt site. I think this is the best to avoid a mis-syncronization from latest image files from official dd-wrt team and this site (the revision downloadable form here is a 9281, the latest from eko is 9856) and because on the official site is possible to retrive varius "flavours" of dd-wrt (micro, standard, nokaid, etc.)
Another thing is to update the official wiki with the flash how-to for this router.
In other words, I think that maintain a separate download section and a separate point of reference for dd-wrt isn't a good idea.
I just flashed my wgr614v8 to the latest DD-WRT v24-sp1 which I downloaded from this site. The flash went fine and configured WDS with my airport express as the repeater, but two things I'm concerned about. One, the power LED does not stay on any longer, only goes on when I reset the router by pressing in the reset button on the back of the unit or resetting via dd-wrt menu. Two, the "check" and "internet" LEDs are constantly lit and in amber color instead of green. Is this a known bug with the latest DD-WRT for the WGR614v8 or did I screw up my router, though DD-WRT is working great! Man, what a differnce it made. Increased the range by two bars. I was in the good range, three bars, and now I'm in Excellent range, 5 bars.
