I think I bricked my router

Ok, so I installed the most recent DD-WRT release and had everything working, or so I thought. I eventually realized that port forwarding was no working properly. I wanted to reset the router and try to configure it again. After resetting it I seem to have lost it completely. I have tried every combination of holding the reset and powering on and off. At one point while trying to ping the router at 192.168.1.1 I got 2 packets through. Not sure how those 2 got through but I have not been able to get anything through since. I can't get a TFTP connection either of course. Is there anything I can do short of soldering a serial cable? This really is frustrating

I did the exact same thing.

I did the exact same thing. Install DD-WRT, and thought it was working just fine, and also could not get port forwarding to work. So I did exactly as you, reset, etc. So I searched around this site to see if I can TFTP back to the original firmware, and I can only get 2 ping returns from the router after powering up. So I ordered TTL-232R-3V3 from ftdichips.com. It came today, so as it shows in this article: http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/10341/Recover-Your-WGR614L-Using-a-S...

I followed the exact steps as shown. But as far as I can get is step 6.1 with puTTY running but get nothing on the putty screen. On the router all I get is a green power light, and an amber check mark and a little activity on the #1 port where my computer is plugged in.

I ran hyperterminal and had it connected to the com port that the USB Serial is connected and can get into the router that way. So it looks to me that putty is not connecting correctly to it.

Is there anyone out there that has any idea where it go from here?

Well that was the problem,

Well that was the problem, puTTY wasn't reading the com port correctly. All went well with hyperterminal and was able to tftp the original firmware back into my router.

So alphonse55, it looks to me that the only way you will be able to recover is using the USB serial connection.
