I am able to connect to the wireless network via my PC laptops. When I attempt to connect to the network with the Mac laptops, the mac is not able to connect, the airport manager simply states that there is an error and is unable to connect to the selected network. the network and WPA password is correct, the Mac for some reason just won't connect.
If I connect the Mac via ethernet cable everything works just fine, but the point was to connect everything wirelessly.
I am a tab bit Macintosh ignorant, how would I disable the firewall in a mac?
As far as disabling firewall in mac is concerned you can use the following link :
http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?...
also you can try with a different security mechanism like WEP ...
BTW if you are able to connect through ethernet then firewall is not a problem ....
It has got something to do with wireless interface
Keep us posted about your proceedings ...
I now have a wireless network with the PC's and Mac's using WEP encryption.
Since disabling the securities didn't have any effect I'm going to assume that something is either wrong or not supported with the WPA on this older mac (even though it gives you the option of choosing WPA and WPA-2), there could also be the possibility that since this is such an older computer and has been so thoroughly used before there could be some program overriding the airport controls when using WPA.
Thank you all for your help and fast responses!
There is an update available for the OS to bring it from 10.4.7 to 10.4.11 but the admin password that is required for installing this has been forgotten or lost. Once that problem is solved I am going to try implementing a WPA secured network again, if that was the original issue I will come back here and let you all know for future reference.
Well that's good ... you should definitely go ahead with OS upgradation and WPA implementation ...
