WGR614v9?

Hello everyone.

I am very new at this, so please forgive me if I ask some ignorant questions.

I purchased a wgr614 on Amazon recently (I actually haven't recieved it yet) to use as the client addapter in a wireless bridge for my house (I need to link the TV area with the office).  I assume I will be getting the wgr614v9, I picked out the wgr614 because it was cheap and it was on the dd-wrt supported devices list (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Netgear).

But now I am reading some information on the specifics of how to do this, and it seems that the information on this site is much more complete for the wgr614 family than it is on dd-wrt.com.  And I have seen some worrysome info that perhaps I can't put dd-wrt on a wgr614v9 (http://www.myopenrouter.com/forum/thread/10513/What-can-I-do-with-wgr614v9/)?  Is this the case, or is it very difficult to do?

How would I go about installing dd-wrt (micro?) on a wgr614v9?  Or should I delay the whole endevour and exchange it for a wgr614L?

Any thought, or comments are apreciated.

Thanks,

John

I have the experience of

I have the experience of running DD-WRT on WGR614L(v8) and it acts fine in both repeater/client bridge modes ...
As far as WGR614v9 is concerned it is given at DD-WRT site that V9 supports micro build of DD-WRT .... so you can try this build .. I have not tried it as I have only WGR614v8 no v9 :( ...
As far as configuring client bridge is concerned .. it should work because both v8 and v9 use broacom based source ...
let us know about your activity in this regard ..

I am also using DD-WRT in my WGR614v8 router. It works fine. I also want to know about DD-WRT on WGR614V9. Please share your experience.

I found this thread http://dd

I found this thread http://dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=28412&postdays=0&postorder=asc&... at dd-wrt.com and it seems that the v9 has been a work in progress for some time. I think that if I do get a v9 (most likely) I will exchange it for a different router.

Any recommendations on what I should get? I am looking for an inexpensive router that is easy to put dd-wrt on... I will probably start a new thread since only people interested in the v9 will read this one, I guess...

Hi john,

If you can exchange your V9 then I suggest you to go for Netgear's WGR614v8 ... bcoz ...

1> It is inexpensive

2> DD-WRT has been tested on it ... You can obtain corresponding builds on this site itself .

As I mentioned in my last post I personally have tested DD-WRT on WGR614L for several features and so far I have not faced any problem ....

hope this will help you in making up your mind .. :)
