Tomato won't run only DD-WRT and Default Netgear

I am having problems installing Tomato on a Netgear WGR614L v8.

I was running DD-WRT v24 sp2 std small for a couple of weeks.  It was running flawlessly except for my wireless speed which was all over the place.  Sometimes it would be runnning at full speed and at other times it would become extremely slow.  I concluded that this had to be because of the firmware because I didn't have a wireless issue with the default Netgear firmware.  So I decided to try out Tomato.

I ran the MTD erase utility and it worked and my router went into tftp listen mode.  I loaded up command shell in vista and tftp'd the Tomato version that is here:   http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/10285/Tomato-Firmware-for-WGR614L-v...

It said it was sent successfully and the router rebooted.  The power light came on like it was trying to load and after about 45 seconds the power light started flashing again and it went back into tftp listen mode.

So I decided to tftp the default firmware on to the router and it worked and the router booted up and I was able to access the default firmware.  So I decided to try to upload Tomato through the router upgrade option on the netgear default firmware and the same thing happened.  So when it dropped into listen mode this time, I decided to see if DD-WRT would load for me, I tftp'd DD-WRT mini .chk and it booted successfully and I was able to access the firmware.

Then I ran the MTD Erase utility again, and it went into listen mode.  This time I decided to try the MyOpenRouter community firmware, and it did the same thing that Tomato did, tried to boot, but ended up going back into tftp listen mode.  When this didn't work I figured that maybe the MTD Erase utility wasn't working properly.  So I loaded DD-WRT back on to the router and then telnet'd into it and used the DD-WRT built in erase utility.  I did erase linux and rebooted the router and it was back in tftp listen state.  Tried to load Tomato and same thing!

I have tried to unplug the router and plug it back in and the power light goes solid for a while and then starts flashing again.  I have tried to hold the reset button and that does nothing.  After the firmware was done uploading I also waited an hour to see that maybe it was just taking a long time to boot or something and it just kept blinking and blinking and blinking.

So does anyone know why I can only successfully run the default Netgear firmware and DD-WRT, but not Tomato?   I really want to run Tomato becasue of the wireless issues I have with DD-WRT.  I don't want to run the default firmware, because when I was using that I would have to reboot the router every few days and DD-WRT is more stable than the default firmware.  I wouldn't be in this situation if I didn't have the wireless speed problems with DD-WRT.  I have read other people having problems with wireless speed on other forums with other routers and no one seems to have an answer.  I tried numerous different setting combinations and nothing seemed to help.

I'm so frustrated right now I want to throw the router out of the window.  :)

I appreciate any help so that I can get Tomato running on this thing.

I have checked your problem.

I have checked your problem. I am able to upload Tomato firmware from DD-WRT firmware in the way described in http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/10496/How-To-Switch-Firmwares-on-the...
But for MOR, I think there is some problem.

MOR means MyOpenRouter

MOR means MyOpenRouter community firmware. I have uploaded it by MTD Erase Utility from DD-WRT firmware. Then I have checked it through serial also. The image is uploaded, but then it not responding in ping.
But for Tomato uploading, there is no problem.
