Help client mode telnet WGR614v7

I have a WGR614v7 and i know it has atheros 51xx/2317 chipset 2mb flash rom 8mb vram it is telnet capible of enabling it i wanted to know if the client mode on this router works when i go to that mode the test/check mark simble flickers when its off it doesnt and i heard i have to make a new firmware so if i have people that would like to help me go ahead its going to free to the world. thanks for helping me. or if anyone knows how to make client or bridge mode work please bring it to my attention people at the netgear forums wont give answers at all they wont give support nothing to this and i am no sure why if atheros is so common in routers and computers it should be easy to make a firmware

hi geramy ,

hi geramy ,
I have replied to one of your posts ... plz check it ... also as far as I know this site is dedicated to WGR614L so I m not sure if you can get people working with WGR614v7 at this place .....
And client mode should be supported in your default F/W ...plz check it properly ...

for anyone wondering i have

for anyone wondering i have figured it out like i though it works to client bridge witch is set operationmode sta but with no security it works havn't tested yet repeater mode works too even on wpa wpa2 make sure to set superg enable it will disable compresion and that slows it down this will only bridge to 1 computer the rest get ip addresses but no internet i havnt figured out why but i will and update your guys on it

OK ... u need to set the

OK ... u need to set the operation mode to sta to get it working as client bridge... Some firmwares (like DD-WRT) provide options of client bridge and repaeter bridge seperately ...
If you are getting client bridge working then it should also work with security ..
Make sure that u use same security parameters at both primary and secondary routers ...
Also if client bridge works then u can configure repeater bridge also ... The only additional thing that u need is to create some virtual AP(s) in your WGR614v7 so that wireless clients could connect to these virtual APs ....

Well, I dont have a WGR614v7 so I can't confirm whether other security mechanisms  other than WEP are supported there or not ....

Also in client bridge mode we can connect more that one PCs to our secondary router i.e your WGR614v7 .... The no. of hosts that can be connected is limited only by no. of LAN ports available on your board .....

You can try one thing ..... just make sure that each of the PCs that has been connected to your Wgr614v7 is able to ping it .... I think it is some set up related mistake that you have done in configuring other PCs ....

geramy
geramy's picture
well um i cant get pings my

well um i cant get pings my computers from one that is not getting internet acsses but the one that is is fine so i might by an non wireless router plug the cable into the other router and the router can act as its being pluged into a cable modem lol i have a switch a netgear one just got it but no only one computer will get my first routers gate way and dns server ip's witch is 192.168.0.1 and if i do the others mauly they wont work only the one

achilles
achilles's picture
OK u can do that set up later

OK u can do that set up later but at first try one thing ....
Disconnect the PC which is able to ping the board and access the net from the board and let the other PC which is not able to ping ,remain connected to board ...
See now if you can ping the board or not from that PC .... let me know about the result ...

geramy
geramy's picture
No it doesnt ping i have

No it doesnt ping i have bought a switch too so if i might need more ports um would looping the router bridge into the wan port work anyways no i cant ping it but my 1st router see's it

Good Evening Geramy,

My name is Nathaniel of NETGEAR Level 2 Technical Support.

I understand that you are interested in non-public firmware that enables bridging or client mode in a WGR614v7.

I am sorry, but NETGEAR does not have any public or non-public firmware with those features. However you should take a look at the WGPS606 or WG602v3 as these products support client mode with the latest versions of public firmware

Thank You for choosing NETGEAR,

I have Bharti Broadband

I have Bharti Broadband installed with Wifi router in one of my room.
The signals are not strong enough to cover another room bit far off.

I have Netgear WGR614, purchased few months back.

Can I use/add this wifi router (WGR614) to add more signals to my other room where signal strength is very low.

Please let me know the procedure and steps needed to do so.

Thanks in advance.

I can confirm that client

I can confirm that client mode is indeed possible in WGR614v7 with latest firmware. As mentioned above I had could login to the WGR614v7 telnet interface, I had updated the firmware to v 2.0.30 from this link http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2723/~/wgr614v7-firmw...
After telnet login, I used commands (without quotes) "wla", then "setoperation mode sta" (To enable mode as a wireless client, try using only setoperationmode to get a help list of options). I also did "find bss" to search for my other Belkin play max router, then copied its MAC ID and set it as the remote access point to connect to using command "set remoteap " (enter your other router's MAC ID), I also did a "add remotewbr " (just in case, to add it as a remote wireless bridge). Then use ".." to goto main menu "save" then "reboot"
From the web based netgear router configuration GUI (192.168.1.1) I changed the SSID to match the same SSID as the remote access point(router). Disabled the use DHCP option under LAN settings, disabled SPI firewall, disabled broadcast SSID, changed IP address of client netgear router to that just outside the remote router's DHCP list (192.168.2.101) (remote router had IP of 192.168.2.1) there should not be 2 DHCP on same network as it may lead to IP conflicts, kept both in the same subnet mask 255.255.255.0 . Also dropped any encryption initially on both routers for testing, which works, but also it seems to connect to each other using WEP enrcyption (64/128bit) which was set using the web GUI.
However I could not get client mode to work using WPA/WPA2 encryption. With WEP the WGR614v7 (the 1st LAN port of which) was connected to a Sony BRAVIA LED TV EX720 ethernet port could connect and surf the internet which was connected to the WAN port of the remote router.
