As topic title says, i would like to replace WGR614L stock antenna with something slightly more powerful. I have a Playstation3 in my living room that is placed at about 10 metres from my router, and there are two 30cm thick concrete walls between 'em. Needless to say, signal quality isn't that good in that situation. Raising TX power to 84mW didn't help.
A university colleague gave me the idea of replacing stock antenna with another one with a higher gain. Is it possible on this particular model? Is WGR6149L stock antenna using some king of standard connection, or is it soldered?
I dnt think so ... It has not been mentioned anywhere in WGR614L's h/w specs and I have an WGR614L open box where I can see that antenna z soldered ...
May be u can try to reduce the distance between the router and playstation ...
A tx power of 84mW shud be sufficient in most of the cases ....
Moving the router towards the living room is my last resort, since it would require getting a longer wire to connect it to the WAN port, and doing more messy things like piercing walls to pass the cables through. Maybe setting different ACK timings would help?
yes u can definitely try with different ACK timings ..... even then if it dz not work then u need to move the router closer .....
You could construct a parabolic reflector from some aluminium foil - http://binarywolf.com/249/diy-parabolic-reflector.htm
I have my router in a corner close to the wall, with lots of interference from the next apartment. Just shaped some aluminium foil in a vaguely circular shape along the corner (did not bother with a cardboard frame, or keeping the antenna at the focus of the parabola). Surprisingly good results.
yep ... this seems a good idea ..though I have never had such need to try this but it's worth trying ...
