Tomato Qos Input BW control

Can some NETGURU explain as to what is the usefulness of this control? Inbound traffic cannot be directly controlled with QOS as all rules operate on outbound traffic only. These packets that exceed your limit are simply thrown away, not delayed as in the case of Upload/Outbound QoS.

Appreciate if someone can explain how this inbound BW control helps in Qos.

While it is true that you can

While it is true that you can't really use QOS to slow down the data that is being sent to you, you can use it to slow down data that is being sent from the Router to one of the computers on the inside of your network.

I'm not sure what use that would have in a real world situation, but one possible (unlikely) scenario would be to cut stream if someone inside your network was downloading faster than they should... Perhaps an employee who is suspected to be downloading illegal content. Slowing down all inbound traffic might make them uncomfortable with the download results to stop doing it.

It doesn't sound like a scenario I'd expect to encounter at home.

It is best to look on the linksysinfo forums for help with using QOS. Look for posts by a local here called Toastman. He explains clearly how QOS can be used, and dispels most of the rubbish that is written in the various forums.

After reading his QOS thread a few times, I finally got my QOS to do exactly what I wanted it to.
