Netgear WPN824 v2 or v3 custom firmware?

I just bought a Netgear WPN824v3.  I tried to find a ported code source for DD_WRT or other for it and could not.  It is supposed to act as a wireless repeater, but it doesn't.  I have a Netopia 3347 at the gateway and it has no problem associating with other routers for repeat purposes.... yet the netgear can't see it.  I wanted to try some custom router software/firmware.  Any ideas?  It runs on the Atheros 2313 chip.

Well if it is supposed to act as repeater then it should act like one with its default f/w itself ....

Just check that your channel , mode and other things are same as that in the primary router ...

For DD-WRT or other open source firmwares first check at their sites if this is still supported by them or not ... then u shoud start looking for corresponding open source firmwares ...

For anyone with this router

For anyone with this router (Netgear WPN824v3), there is opensource source and tools to build custom firmware here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2649

It is clunky process, but works well enough. This router has much potential as far as "G" routers go. I have it maxed out and working as a wireless repeater with stateful inspection AND have it working well with Windows Server 2008 domain-centered network.

Paul,

Paul,

Is it possible for you to describe the process that you have used to build the firmware?

May be in terms of steps and the OS requirement of build machine?

I had to buy a new pc due to a power surge. I purchased a Asus Essentio series. I had them install a basic wireless card. I ended up with poor signal strenght.I had no problem with the pc I had before, which was a HP Pavillion. So I took it back to the dealer and they installed the best card they had which was a Linksys wusb600n. Now that one is as bad as the first one. Now there telling me I need to install a N router. The one I have now is a netgear wpn824. Any suggestions about this problem. Help!

Get DD-WRT or OpenWRT. It is

Get DD-WRT or OpenWRT. It is reliable, easy to use, and has far more features than the original router. In fact, DD-WRT can allow a router on which it is installed to perform functions, like repeating, QoS, port triggering, an infinite number of forwarded ports, etc. that would normally require the purchase of a $600 router, or routing server.
Since this router has only 2 MB of flash memory, see 2A, I recommend OpenWRT. See the page from link 1B, OpenWRT's supported hardware page, which lists the WPN824[v1 to v3].

DD-WRT doesn't support

DD-WRT doesn't support Atheros chipsets with 2mb flash, must be 4mb flash or better. So if openwrt supports it then yea go for it.
