Right now I use my iPad with clear and the clearspot. When I use netflix I get constant stopping and buffering from time to Time.
Would it improve my streaming to change the router to a wireless N. There are several mobile broadband wireless n routers that accept the clear usb modem
My router is always a foot or so from me.
Help!
Rick
Yes, if you've configured the router in N mode only and are using no non-N devices. While the following is for a competitor's product, the basics are the same - http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=616.0
For the most part I get the ability to intermittently stream from netflix....I know using a wireless n router will not improve the signal from the tower...but I was thinking it might improve the signal from the router to the ipad enough to stream with no problem.
Also is there any mobile broadband modem that is dual band? The tests seem to indicate the ipad works much better on 5.0 ghz
Rick
You're using 3G, GPRS or something similar? Your bottleneck is very definitely with the mobile network - using 802.11n for the last hop won't matter.
I am using clear wimax service with download speeds advertised at 3 to 6 mbps
Rick
In that case even 802.11b would probably be enough - achieving real world throughput of about 6 Mb/s. 802.11g hits about 22 Mb/s in the real world, which is overkill. Moving to using 802.11n won't buy you anything except a shiny router.
